NORTH BULLITT HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of NBHS is to provide a strong academic and social foundation,
within a safe and nurturing environment, whereby all students can achieve their
maximum potential and become responsible, productive members of society.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Welcome! I am eager to get to work with each of you this year. In English III, you
will enhance your reading comprehension through a diverse range of texts and
will craft your own voice in both written and oral form. We will explore the
beauty of language through vocabulary, style, and literary devices. Each of you
will be able to find your voice to express yourself eloquently.
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
How does my language inform my identity?
How will English help me in the real world?
How does reading make me more open-minded?

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Our English class will be a respectful, orderly environment where good
behavior will allow us to enjoy a variety of activities, including group work,
presentations, creative projects, and much more. I will teach different learning
styles to offer every student the chance to achieve and become a thoughtful,
capable, confident learner. Each class period will be full of learning and to
succeed it is very important that you are in class and giving your all every day. If
you do miss class for a school-approved reason, you will be responsible for
picking up and completing makeup work that will be due according to school

policy (one day plus the amount of days missed). I am here to assist you and will
be happy to offer any additional help that you may need, just come see me!

MATERIALS

3-Ring Binder (1 inch)

Loose-leaf paper
Page dividers (5 pack)
Pencils
Highlighter

You must have all materials with you in class by Monday, August 15th. If you
have any concerns about purchasing these materials, please come talk to me
after school to find a solution.
INDEPENDENT READING
Reading is absolutely integral to this class and there will be time devoted to
independent reading every week. You will have the freedom to choose any books
that interest you. You may bring in your own book, check one out from the
library, or borrow one from me. If you borrow one of my books, please treat it
kindly and return it in the same condition. If you lose the book, you must provide
a replacement book.
GRADING
100 90% = A

89 80% = B

79 70% = C

69 60% = D

Assignments will be graded on a point system determined by the weight of each

assignment (larger assignments will be worth more points than small
assignments). The points will be added up each semester, plus the final exam
(worth 20%), to determine your final grade.
Students will be asked to keep all graded work for each semester. Graded work
is like a receipt; if for some reason Ive made an error in the Infinite Campus
gradebook, students can show me their graded work and I will correct it.
Students are responsible for their own grades. If a student falls behind, he or
she may have serious difficulty earning a passing grade.
*Please make sure you get your work in on time. Assignments that are turned
in late will lose 10% each day after the due date.
Note: Technology must be used appropriately. You may not take pictures or
record anyone in class for any reason without my permission.
