Whatseemstobetheproperorderforthesethingsisasfollows:
1)WhentheMessenger(sallallaahu'alayhewasallam)finishedhisprayers,hestartedwith
hissayingof"Astaghfirullaah"threetimes.[1]
2)Thenhewouldsay"AllaahummaantasSalaamuwaminkasSalaam,tabaaraktayaathal
jalaaliwalikraam."[2]
3)Thenhewouldsaytheotherreportedsupplications,like,"LaailaahaillAllaahwalaa
na'buduillaaiyyaah..."[3]
4)Thenhewouldcommencemakingthetasbeehs,saying,"subhaanAllaah,""alhamdu
lillaah,"and"Allaahuakbar,"33timeseach.[4]
5)ThenhewouldreciteAayahAlKursee,asitiswhathasbeenreportedthathe(sallallaahu
'alayhewasallam)usedtoreciteaftereachprayer.[5]
AsfortherecitationofSoorahAlIkhlaas,SoorahAlFalaq,andSoorahAnNaas,thenthey
aretoberecitedinthemorningandintheeveningonly.Ithasnotbeenauthentically
narrated,tothebestofmyknowledge,thattheywererecitedaftereachprayer,andAllaah
knowsbest.[6]
Andasforthequestion,"Arethesethingstobesaidoutloudorquietly?"Ithasbeen
authenticallyreportedfromIbn'Abbaas(mayAllaahbepleasedwithhim),asAlBukhaaree
reported[7],thathesaidtheyusedtoknowwhentheMessenger'sprayer(sallallaahu'alayhe
wasallam)wasoverduetothevoicesoftheCompanionsmakingtakbeer,meaningthe
supplicationsaftertheprayer.
ImaamAshShaafi'ee,mayAllaahhaveMercyonhim,saidthatthisraisingoftheirvoices
withtakbeeraftertheprayerwasonlydonesometimes,notalways,anditwasdonetoteach
thepeople.ImaamAshShaafi'eehadwarnedthatitisnotfortheMuslimstoraisetheirvoices
withthesephrasesofthikrandsupplications,unlessthereisaneedtoteachthemtothe

people.Ifthepeoplearenotinneedoflearningthem,thenthenormisthatapersondoesnot
raisehisvoice,ratherhesaysthesethingsinasilentwaysothathehimselfhearsthem,and

exceptwithHisPermission?Heknowswhathappenstotheminthisworld,andwhatwill
happentothemintheHereafter.AndtheywillnevercompassanythingofHisKnowledge
exceptthatwhichHewills.HisThroneextendsovertheheavensandtheearth,andHe
feelsnofatigueinguardingandpreservingthem.AndHeistheMostHigh,theMostGreat.

Shadad ibn Aws radhiallahu ànhu said : When the prophet (s.a.w) used to finish his prayer, he used to
say :
".
Oh Allah,You created me and I am Your servant. and I abide to Your covenant and promise [to honor it] as best I
can, I take refuge in You from the evil of which I committed. I acknowledge Your favor upon me,and I
acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sins except You.
Virtue:
If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it and dies on the same day before the evening, he
will be from the people of Paradise and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it and dies before
the morning he will be from the people of Paradise."

Imaam anNasaèe in his Sunan assughra, under the book of forgetfulness (kitaab assahw) brings a chapter

It was narrated from Aishah that:

When the Messenger of Allah ( )sat in a gathering or prayed something, he finished it with some words, and
'Aishah asked him about those words. He said: "If he has spoken some good words (and he says this statement of
remembrance), it will be a seal for them to preserve them until the Day of Resurrection, and if he has said
something other than that, it (these words) will be an expiation for him:
'Subhanak Allahumma wa bihamdika, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk (Glory and praise be to You, O Allah, I seek
Your forgiveness and I repent to You.)

Imaam Nasaèe in his Sunan alKubra, he brings a chapter titled :

It's chain of narration is saheeh. Reported by AnNasaèe in sunan alKubra, and tabraani in his book adduà
(1912) and Samàni in 'Adab alImaam..(page 75), Ibn Naasir addeen in;
Ibn Hajar sahid in Nukbat (2/733) that its sanad is saheeh. Shaykh Albaanee in Saheeha (7/495) said its chain is
on the conditions of Muslims and Shaykh Mubqil bin Haade said in his Jaami` assaheeha (2/128) that is hadeeth
is saheeh.
Also these words "
" is something which the prophet

show that the prophet (s.a.w) supplicated these words of duà more often than we can count. Be if after any
prayer, or recitation of Quràn or getting up from a gathering or in rukoo` and sujood , the prophet (s.a.w)
recited this duà
The ahadeeth report that the prophet (s.a.w) recieved an indication from Allah that he will soon see a sign and
the prophet (s.a.w) thus said that the above surah was a sign in itself plus he was shown other signs, so
everytime he saw a sign in his Ummah which was promised by Allah he used to exert himself with this duà.

Naas can be read after "every" Salah (i.e. every Fardh Salah). But the answer
beforeDua1teachesthatthe3Surasare"only"formorningandevening.

thatwasthefatwaofshaykhmuhammadbasedonhisijtihaadthattheahadeeth
are weak. However, in the reference (footnote section) under reference [6] we
havementioned:
[6] Imaam Ahmad collected a narration mentioning that 'Uqbah ibn 'Aamir (may
Allaah be pleased with him) was ordered by the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa
sallam)torecitethemu'awwithaat(thelastthreesoorahsoftheQur'aan:Ikhlaas,
Falaq, and Naas) after each prayer. It is #17417 in the Musnad (28/633 of Ar
Risaalah), and AlAlbaanee declared it to be authentic in his checking of Shaykh
AlIslaam'sAlKalimAtTayyib(p.114).
Whichshowsthatitisauthenticanditiswhatistheopinionofthejumhoor.Soit
is upto the reader if he wants to follow the majority or the fatwa of shaykh
muhammad.

yes this is generally applicable. Salawat or durood in general means

sending peace and blessings upon the prophet or supplicating to that
effect. you can do it with any words/languague you want. or simply keep it to
allahumma sallay wa baarik àla muhammad (oh allah send peace and blessings
uponMuhammad)
