Speaking, listening, reading, and writing will all be assessed. Students who wish to retake a
unit quiz must do so before the day of the unit test. (Please note: The weekly 10-question
formative quizzes cannot be retaken.) Students who wish to retake unit tests will have one
week from the day the test was given provided they have no missing assignments from the
unit.
b. Speaking and Writing: You will be responsible for taking writing and speaking
assessments to assess your proficiency and establish goals for improvement. These
assessments will be completed without a dictionary or notes throughout the year.
c. Participation: This is an essential part of acquiring a language. Your voluntary
participation is required during class to be successful in this course.
d. Late Work: Students have until the day of the unit test to turn in a late formative
assignment with an automatic 20% reduction in credit. Any assignments turned in after the
day of the unit test will not be accepted for credit.
d. Grading:
Summative Assessments - 80%
Formative Assessments - 20%
Formative assessments include a range of formal and informal assessment procedures
conducted by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and
learning activities to improve student achievement. Examples: homework, minor
quizzes, and daily tasks such as in-class listening, reading, writing, and speaking
activities.

Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning, skill acquisition, and
academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional periodtypically at
the end of a project, unit, course, semester, program, or school year. Examples:
projects, end-of-unit tests, end-of-chapter quizzes, and major listening, reading, writing
and speaking assessments.
