Topic: Persuasive health and wellbeing application: An approach in promoting
physical activity
SDT theory
Theory of motivation and personality that addresses three universal, innate and
psychological needs: competence, autonomy, and psychological relatedness.

Competence (DASBORAD RESULT)

Seek to control the outcome and experience mastery.
Relatedness (WALKING WITH GROUP/COLLEAGUE)
Is the universal want to interact, be connected to, and experience caring for others.
Autonomy (WALKING BY OWN)
Is the universal urge to be causal agents of ones own life and act in harmony with ones integrated
self; however, Deci and Vansteenkiste note this does not mean to be independent of others.
Motivation has often been grouped into two main types: extrinsic and intrinsic. With extrinsic
motivation, a person tends to do a task or activity mainly because doing so will yield some kind of
reward or benefit upon completion
ABSTRACT:
People spend handsome time at their workplace. While eating
breakfast and lunch during the recession period, one feel lazy both
physically and mentally. Thus, lowering the working progress and gain
extra calorie turned to body fat. In order to motivate individuals, we
designed, implemented and tested an application for improving
physical activity behavior. Our health and wellbeing application
delivers a physical activity promotion intervention that motivates user
performing body movement for example walking after snack. Our
physical activity promotion is based on recent research that proved
that we can be motivated extrinsically through three psychological
needs (autonomy, competence and relatedness). We conducted a
week-long evaluation of our health and wellbeing application. We
found that our health and wellbeing application increased physical
activities at the workplace compared to a simple application without
scientific measurement.
