Cameron Compact Geothermal Wellhead System

he Cameron Compact Geothermal Wellhead System is a horizontal production system based on the highly successful Cameron
GCT system which has long been regarded as the benchmark of the
industry.
The compact design of the Cameron wellhead reduces drilling costs,
production costs and construction costs. The shallow cellar requirement reduces pipeline costs, manpower costs and provides a safer
working environment. Major features of the system include:
Up to 48% more compact than any system currently on the
market.
Horizontal production permits full drift capabilities during
workover without having to dismantle the Christmas tree
assembly.
Body penetrations limited to test/injection ports and side outlets
only.
Latching mechanisms for the centralizer/pack-off developed from
technology used in advanced subsea systems.
Static elastomer seals are pressure-energized. Plastic packing is
used only for emergency sealing.
Available in all popular sizes and working pressures in either
solid block or conventional flanged designs.
Major components of the Cameron compact system include:
Casing Head
Incorporates a profile to accept the internal locking centralizer, the
pack-off assembly and to support a single static expansion seal.

Expansion Seal Assembly

Static seal is pressure sensitive and does not require any outside
means to be energized.
Seal can be reenergized by injecting plastic packing through the
expansion block test ports, if required.
Optional double expansion seal assembly can be added in the
bottom of the cross/tee expansion block.
Cross/Tee Expansion Block
Eliminates the need for a separate expansion spool.

bringing the well online.
Test ports may also be used to inject plastic packing between
the expansion seals or between the centralizer/pack-off and the
single expansion seal if necessary.
As an added feature to the compact geothermal wellhead, Cameron
also offers two types of weldless systems for connecting the casing
head to the conductor pipe:
The Cameron CAMFORGE Casing Connection System*

CAMFORGE Casing Connection System and SlipLock Connector

CAMFORGETM Casing Connection System

The CAMFORGE wellhead housing features a bottom connection that
makes installation fast, safe and economical. Problems associated with
welding are avoided because the CAMFORGE connection is made using
hydraulic pressure to expand the surface casing and housing. After the
pressure is removed, the housing contracts to grip the casing and form
a structurally sound, pressure tight connection. Features of the
CAMFORGE system include:
Rig time and duration of open hole time without BOP protection
are minimized. For example, based on 37 typical installations,
the average time required to install a 20 CAMFORGE casing head
housing is 2 hours and 48 minutes. This includes mechanically
cutting the casing, positioning the landing base and housing,
forging, hydro-testing, and removing the CAMFORGE tool.
Metal-to-metal seals are created by the CAMFORGE process on
the existing mill finish surface of the casing without any need for
pre-machining.
The CAMFORGE annulus hydro-testing simulates working conditions prior to BOP nipple up.
No open flame or welding is required. Casing is mechanically cut
and existing nearby production does not have to be shut-in for safety.

SD24318

CAMFORGE Wellhead Housing

SlipLockTM Connector
The SlipLock connector is an alternative method of attaching a casing
head housing to surface pipe. Instead of using conventional casing
threads or slip-on preparations which require field welding, a simple slip
mechanism is utilized. Once the slips are mechanically activated, sealing
is achieved with integral elastomeric P seals. Features of the SlipLock
connector include:
Reduced rig installation time since welding is eliminated.
The SlipLock connector is reusable for drilling/exploration
applications.
The SlipLock system is suitable for landing base applications.

Cameron Gate Valves for Geothermal Service

Cameron Gate Valves for Geothermal Service

W-K-M Pow-R-Seal Gate Valves

Cameron designs and manufactures gate valves to meet the

demands of geothermal service.

W-K-M Pow-R-Seal gate valves have been successfully employed for

many years in geothermal service, in flow lines and as master, wing
and casing head valves on wellheads.

Cameron offers two highly reliable, field proven valve designs for
use in geothermal service: The Foster D-Seal Geothermal Gate Valve
and the W-K-M Pow-R-Seal Geothermal Gate Valve.
All 12 nominal Foster and W-K-M gate valves are are either 12 3/8
or 12 1/2 bore to drift a 12 1/4 bit.

Pow-R-Seal valves are available with flanged and weld ends, in 2

through 36 bore sizes, and in ANSI classes 150, 300, 400, 600, 900 and
1500. These valves meet API 6D requirements and are ideal for storage,
manifold, processing, steam and hot water applications. In addition,
API 6A-rated 2and 3 sizes, with 2000, 3000 and 5000 psi working
pressure, are used on steam wells as casing head valves.

Foster D-Seal Geothermal Gate Valves

Foster D-Seal Geothermal Gate Valves have been highly successful in
geothermal service. The slab gate and dual seat design assures reliability and long service life. These valves are available with flanged
and weld ends in ANSI classes 150 through 1500 and in bore sizes 2
through 24. A single seat option is also available.

Foster D-Seal Geothermal Gate Valve

D-Seal Valve
The D-seal valve is ideal for those critical situations where an absolute,
durable seal is needed. At the heart of this valve is its unique dual
seat design, which virtually doubles the anticipated time between
major gate/seat repair. The primary internal seat takes the brunt of
daily wear and tear, and the second outer seat takes over in case of
failure. Other features of the D-seal valve include:

Simple, accessible design requires no tools for disassembly and

repair. Also features in-line repairablilty.

Multiple backup seals in every critical area, including two

independent seals on each side of the gate and three seals in
the stem sealing area with back seat capability.

Available with stem extensions and power actuators.

Simple operation and low torque allows for the use of a smaller,
more economical actuator.
Rugged cast steel body provides maximum structural integrity.
Primary seat is available without the TFE insert.

Two functional valves in one more than doubles the usable life
expectancy compared to a conventional valve.
Bi-directional sealing capability in some cases can eliminate valves
used in tandem.

Internal self-venting mechanism automatically relieves body cavity

pressure caused by thermal expansion. Therefore costly problems
of ongoing maintenance, testing, service, and possible hazards to
personnel and the environment from contaminants are eliminated.

Foster D-Seal Geothermal Gate Valve

Primary Seat Operation

When the valve is operated, an imbalance of pressure occurs when the backside
of the upstream seat exposes more surface area to the flowing product than the
front side. Therefore the seat pistons forward creating a bubble-tight seal with
low or high differential pressure on the upstream and downstream sides. The
secondary seat remains in a neutral position, maintaining contact with the gate
through the assistance of the belleville spring. Double block and bleed is possible in either the open or closed position.
Secondary Seat Operation

If the face of the primary seat becomes damaged due to corrosion or erosion,
the secondary seat activates due to a second imbalance of pressure. As pressure
leaks past the damaged primary seat, the secondary seat is exposed to more
pressure from behind than in front causing it to move forward, sealing it against
the gate. This seat is hydraulically set by line pressure and continues to be
buffered from direct effects of erosive wear by the primary seat.

SD16658

Primary Seat Operation

Internal Self-Venting Feature

When the pressure in the body cavity rises above that of the valve conduit, an
imbalance occurs against the second seat. If that imbalance exceeds the preset
strength of the belleville spring, the second seat moves away from the gate
relieving the internal body cavity to the upstream side and venting no
contaminants to the atmosphere. The primary seat is similarly affected.

SD16657

Secondary Seat Operation

Stem Extension Coupling

Attaches a stem connection quickly and securely without any special tools. It
may also be used to attach an actuator or manual handwheel. The top threaded
portion of the valve stem is machined with a small keyway, as is the bottom of
the stem extension. The coupling is made up to both stems. Keyways in the
stems are aligned with the key slot in the coupling. The key is inserted into the
slot and retained with the couplings sleeve and snap ring. All this accomplished
in minutes.

W-K-M Pow-R-Seal Geothermal Gate Valve

Pow-R-Seal Gate Valves

W-K-M Pow-R-Seal gate valves have been successfully employed for
over 40 years in geothermal steam service, in flow lines and as master,
wing and casing head valves on steam wellheads. Available with
flanged and weld ends, principle sizes used are 2 through 12 in ANSI
classes 150, 300, 400, 600, 900 and 1500, with other sizes available up
through 36. These valves meet API 6D requirements and are ideal for
manifold, processing, steam and hot water applications. In addition,
API 6A-rated 2 and 3 sizes, with 2000, 3000 and 5000 psi working
pressure, are used on steam wells as casing head valves.
The Pow-R-Seal geothermal steam valve has all the inherent advantages of the through-conduit design. The Pow-R-Seal valve illustrated
provides these outstanding features which make it ideal for a hot, abrasive service:
Gates, seats, and other internal parts can be removed and replaced
by a trained serviceman right in the line, eliminating excessive
shutdown time.
Seats are provided with a metal-to-metal seal, both upstream and
downstream.

HF-6 StelliteTM overlay* is applied to wearing surfaces.

Seating surfaces are protected in both fully open and closed positions.
Parallel expanding gates close tightly against the upstream and
downstream seats in both open and closed positions, providing a
tight, mechanical seal.
In the event sealing members are damaged, sealant can be injected to effect a seal until the valve can be repaired. In 6 and larger valves, the sealant is pumped directly through body fittings
into a groove on the face of the seat. In valves through the 4
size, sealant can be pumped into the valve body.
Equipped with an SLS maintenance-free, self-adjusting, fugitive
emissions-tested, stem seal in an enclosed packing box.
Equipped with a pressure relief valve unless otherwise specified
by the purchaser at time of purchase.
* Applies to valves for -20F to +550F (-20C to +288C) operating temperatures.

Allows free passage of steam or hot water with minimum turbulence and a pressure drop no greater than through an equal length
of pipe.

W-K-M Pow-R-Seal Geothermal Gate Valve

Expanding Gate Sealing Method

Expanded gates provide a mechanical sealing method that ensures low pressure sealing. As the valve opens, upward travel of
the loose gate segment is stopped by the
bonnet. As the main gate segment continues
upward, the two halves of the gate are forced
apart by their tapered mating surfaces.
When the valve is closed, downward travel
of the loose gate segment is stopped by the
body. As the main gate segment continues
downward, the two halves of the gate are
again forced apart by their tapered mating
surfaces.

W-K-M DynaSeal Ball Valves

W-K-M DynaSeal 310 Ball Valves

W-K-M DynaSeal 310 floating ball valves are available in threaded-end
and flanged-end designs. Three piece, threaded-end DynaSeal valves
are available in sizes ranging from 1/4 to 3 full bore and 1/2 to 3
regular port. Working pressures range from vacuum to 5000 psig.
Two piece, flanged-end DynaSeal valves are available in sizes from 4
to 14 full bore and 6 to 14 regular port. These valves are available
in ANSI 0, 150, 300 and 600 pressure classes.
Special high temperature trims are available for DynaSeal 310 ball
valves which provide for service to 625F (329C). This trim is excellent for steam service, heat transfer fluids, boiler feed-water and similar applications. The DynaSeal 310C and 310D ball valves and their
features are outlined below:

Demco Butterfly Valves and W-K-M DynaCentric Butterfly Valves

Demco Butterfly Valves

W-K-M DynaCentric High Performance Butterfly Valves

Demco Butterfly Valves are available in four series; NE-C (long neck)
and; NE-I (short neck) general purpose valves designed for installation
between ANSI 125/150 flanges; NE-D valves designed to fit lightweight flange patterns; and NFC for larger piping requirements of
14 - 48 for drop-tight shut-off at 150 psi differential pressure.

W-K-M DynaCentric high performance butterfly valves are offered in a

wide range of sizes and pressure classes. Heavy wall construction and
body contours are specifically tailored to handle the severe line stresses
encountered in process and power piping. These valves are available
in both flangeless wafer and single flange, threaded lug body styles. A
complete line of quality power actuators and accessories are available
to fit all sizes of W-K-M DynaCentric high performance butterfly
valves. Features include:

All Demco butterfly valves are bi-directional with identical flow way
from either face. One piece bodies are ribbed to ensure high strength
and minimum weight. The bodies are cast in both wafer and tapped
lug patterns in a wide variety of material choices. Three drop-tight
pressure ratings are offered; 2 12; normal 2000
psi shut-off; high-pressure 285 psi shutoff; and reduced torque 50 psi shutoff ratings. These valves also seal
against 20 microns of vacuum (29.9
mercury). Other features include:

Discs are configured for low

pressure drop and high flow coefficients. Full radius, polished edges slide into drop-tight seat
engagements with little turning effort.

Heavy-duty, eccentric disc

with side sealing area is designed
to reduce seat wear.

Internal stop ensures proper disc alignment in closed position.

Upper stems are flatted for positive drive and easy installation of
the handles and actuators. In the stem journal, two self-lubricating
bronze bearings reduce torsional friction and eliminate galling and
seizing of the stem. The bearings also support the stem against
side loading from pressure on the closed disc.
