SYNOPSIS

My name is not Hey Baby (working title) is a 20-minute

documentary about sexual harassment and sexist behavior towards
women.
The film brings a new approach on the subject, being driven by
different narratives, which will all have in common how women
creatively deal with this issue on a daily basis. Five different
characters, with different backgrounds, will share with us their
sexual harassment experiences.
Instead of placing these women as victims or defining them by their
traumas, the film will give them agency and protagonism. They will
tell their stories in an interactive way, taking us to places where
theyve been harassed and showing to the audience how these
experiences made them feel.
The film takes place in London and will follow these women on their
everyday activities, so we can understand how the possibility of
being harassed may influence their behavior.
POTENTIAL CHARACTERS
Carol Mello a young Brazilian woman living in London who studies
theater and also performs as Shakondda, a female Drag Queen, in
Soho. Both personalities of the same character have been sexually
harassed in Brazil and in England in many ways.
Amanda Harvey an English woman who was harassed by her
former boss alongside with her female colleagues. Amanda and her
coworkers bravely got together to report this mans actions and
managed to get him fired.
Kim Clements an English woman who takes self-defense classes
and loves sports. Despite her sweet character and fragile
appearance, Kim is ready to take action in case someone
approaches her in an undesirable way.
CREATIVE APPROACH
In order to make an appealing film, which will not only talk to an
indoctrinated audience (women, feminists, people who are already
aware of this issue), its important to get the political message
through in an entertaining way.
Thats why the characters need to be captivating with diverse and
inspirational backgrounds and also captivated by the idea of being

in a film aware that whatever happens in front of the camera is, at

an ultimate level, a performance, although based on truthful
experiences.
The film will start with a small introduction of each characters life.
The camera will follow them on their main occupations such as
work, hobbies, sports or any other activities they choose to be
defined by. After this brief presentation, the narrative will focus on
their sexual harassment experiences. The characters will be asked
to show rather than only tell these stories, to take us to places
where these harassments took place and talk about them so we can
understand how it happened and, more importantly, how it made
them feel. The goal is to make the audience face the same feelings
and, therefore, sympathize and apprehend in a deeper level how
women experience harassment.
To increase the experiential quality of the film, their testimonies will
be projected in different environments, raising questions and
feelings in the audience about what happened.
The film will show how women dont allow themselves to be defined
by this form of oppression. How they face it everyday with courage
and sometimes, even humor. This will produce a light-hearted
narrative that is not only interested in showing the traumas, but also
how cleverness and creative strategies can be a great form of
resisting sexism.
The audience will be able to see these characters as strong and
powerful women who are brave enough to come on camera and
share their stories. The film will place them in the broader context of
their lives, with interesting narratives. Strong women who have in
common sexual harassment experiences that somehow affected or
still affect their lives.
FINAL OUTCOME
The goal is to empower women, to give them a voice, but in an
entertaining way. The film will allow people - from different ages,
backgrounds, and cultures - to enjoy the film as an audiovisual
production and, at the same time, to learn something about this
political issue. Sexual harassment is not natural, it shouldnt happen
everyday, and it is a form of oppression. The viewers will understand
that whilst theyre also enjoying a good film.
DIRECTORS STATEMENT
As a 31-year-old Brazilian woman, Im quite used to having to deal
with sexual harassment and other peoples expectations about my

own sexuality. Big arses, tiny bikinis and a very invasive type of
waxing are just a few ways of how Brazilian women are wrongly
depicted around the world.
Ive never considered myself as a feminist to be honest. Not
because I didnt agree with the feminist claims, of course I did, but
because I felt feminism was only reaching those who were already
persuaded of its importance.
But recently something made me see this issue differently. Women
and girls in Brazil took to social media to share their experiences of
the first time they were sexually harassed or assaulted after a 12year-old contestant of Brazils Junior MasterChef became the subject
of sexually explicit tweets. The #MeuPrimeiroAssedio hashtag
which translates as my first harassment was used more than
82,000 times on Twitter over five days.
Although I was sad to confront the reality I already new existed, I felt
renovated to see how powerful this movement could be. Finally
these stories were being brought to surface and discussed between
women and men, seen as a serious issue, not only as an everyday
natural aspect of our lives.
This movement was an inspiration to me. Knowing this is a universal
matter, Ive decided to approach it in this film.
The decision to make it trough these characters lives is both a
creative and affectional one. These women are people who I admire
and relate to in some level. More than just another woman victim of
harassment, they all are charming and clever protagonists, with
enriching life stories and special strategies to deal with the sexist
reality they face everyday.
