4.1 GBFD-115506 AMR Coding Rate

Threshold Adaptive Adjustment
4.1.1 Introduction
Scenario
hrough the setting of the target voice quality and the real-time monitoring of the current voice
quality, the GBSS devices can adjust the coding rate adjustment threshold so that the AMR
speech can select an appropriate coding rate to enable the voice quality to approach the target
voice quality. Live net test need to select one cell that AMR speech codec in improper
threshold configuration.

Comment on Execution
1.

First executed the network configuration.

2.

Then originate a call in the tested cell.

Enable the adaptive threshold configuration

First overview the function is enabled, for example, though channel active message, the down
adaptive threshold is effective.

Then the VQI is improved. In the test scenario, the receive quality is good (HQI > 98%).
When the AMR speech codec in improper threshold configuration is used, the VQI value
decreases to 3.8 (the usage of the high-speed codec is low due to the high C/I threshold).
When the AMR speech codec in optimized threshold configuration is then used, the VQI
value increases to 4.0. The VQI value changes as expected in different speech versions and
threshold configurations (The voice quality index (VQI) feature provides a direct method of
measuring the voice quality of the radio network. By measuring the uplink VQI and downlink
VQI, the voice quality of the network is quantified, which provides a reference for future
network optimization.
