Working as a Inspection Engineer involved in Plant Inspection, Shutdown Inspection and Piping
Inspection activities at M/s. Thirumalai chemicals Limited (TCL), Ranipet, Chennai (a
Petrochemical plant producing phallic Anhydride & Malik Anhydride ) .

External and Internal inspection of pressure vessels, storage tanks and process piping.

Internal visual inspection of static equipment such as reactors, heat exchangers, columns,
drums, storage tanks, boilers and piping during shutdown period and recommendations for
repair if necessary.

Dimensional check of flanges as per ANSI B.16.5

Witnessing of hydrostatic test and pneumatic test of all static equipments and piping in the
process plant as per relevant codes and standards.

Preparing Isometric drawings of pipelines &Preparing documentation of pipelines.


Witnessing the hydro testing and pneumatic testing of pipe line and equipments.
Inspection of piping system wise and confirm it is according to P&ID diagrams, Isometric
drawings.
Work in progress or stage inspections includes ensuring the quality of welding during
fabrication shop and erection at site by NDT methods like RT, UT, MPT and PT., then
hardness checking to applicable codes.
Visual inspection of weld on site for its defects and taking appropriate action for the

Temperature survey of fired heaters and high temperature equipments using infrared

Stage wise inspection and updating of control sheets of piping right from material
identification to final hydrostatic testing.

Radiography film interpretation of process piping welds.

Corrosion monitoring of process plant equipments such as heat exchanger, column,


storage tanks, boilers and piping by thickness measurement in shutdown/service.

Review of mill test certificates to ensure chemical composition, mechanical properties and

Details of Experience

Visual inspection and NDT Inspection of Pressure vessels, Columns, Heat Exchangers,
Heaters, Furnaces & Separators.
.Preparation of all NDT Reports and issue a recommendation for necessary actions.
Assist with coordination of shutdown preparation
Co-ordinate implementation resource, supervise and provide direction to resource during
the implementation.

furnaces, fin-fan coolers, steam boiler and process piping.

Management of NDT equipment spares and coordinate external NDT agencies hired for
plant shut downs as well as on-stream days and inspection of jobs on going at contractors

Witnessing internal inspection for corrosion, erosion and modifications like installation of
new nozzles, ring, demister pad, baffle plate, vortex breaker, bed limiters, trays, pal rings,
bolt, nut and gasket etc.. for pressure vessels & heat exchangers as per project specs,
approved drawings and applicable codes.
Coordinate with asset holders, engineering departments and NDT contractors for major
shutdown and campaign works. Preparation of Quality record and documentations as test
pack and submission to client.
Coordinate & plan and schedule of plant equipments for routine / frequent inspection and
maintenance.

Pressure vessel, process piping and pipeline monitoring corrosion using on stream
inspection and supervising the NDT contractors.
Internal and external inspection of Storage tank, Pressure vessel like De-aerator,
Separator, Absorber, Stripper, Knock out drum, Filters, Exchangers and Condensers
Inspection of pressure vessels, columns, heat exchangers, reactors and furnaces during
shut down
Monitoring of Borescope inspection performed by technicians.
Inspection of replacement of furnace tubes and corresponding review of RT films
Preparation, execution and co ordination of inspection activities of welding inspectors,
NDT inspectors and NDT technicians for modification/additional project works carried out
during shutdown.
Interpretation of radiographs of shop welded, field welded joints and tie-in welding.
Final review of test packs of completed project for approval by Equate inspection
department.
