Organizational Background
GREDO is an indigenous local NGO. Non-profit non-partial, non- political and voluntary
organization based in Baidoa. To reach the most affected grass-root communities in Bay and
Bakool regions and lower shabelle effectively and efficiently, the necessity of local partnership
in relief program appeared. Responding to the partnership need, a group of Somali intellectuals
and well-wishers initiated in December 1992 a local non-governmental organization called
Gargaar Relief and Development Organization (GREDO) the organization has implemented
during these period different projects including relief and emergency programs and later
improved into rehabilitation and developmental programs.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

A Nutritional Counselors primary duties are to assist patients with recommended and
Prescribed dietary adjustments and support these patients as they make these adjustments.
Patients could be seeking treatment for a variety of ailments including mental disorders
hindering proper eating and dietary habits.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

To assess mothers and their children to identify specific feeding support needs
To provide breastfeeding counselling for mothers experiencing difficulties breastfeeding;
including supporting lactating mothers
To refer children for intensive nutritional/medical care as required
To identify mothers to become peer educators in their home villages, and to support them
to undertake sensitization and referral to the Child Friendly Space
Keep a register of mothers and children attending education sessions, receiving skilled
assessment and support

Evaluate nutritional needs for patient, food restrictions, and present day health situation
to establish food habit and eating plans. Then issue patient with nutritional and food
counseling.
Advise families on nutritional concepts, eating plans and diet adjustments
Give guidance to the patient or patients on the regulations of healthy nutrition, better their
eating habits, and follow their nutrition levels to better their lives

QUALIFICATIONS
Nutritionist ,Nurse, qualification
Knowledge of best infant and young child feeding practices and a willingness to learn
