Background: Increased blood pressure (hypertension) is an increase in heart rate,
increased resistance of the blood vessels and increased volume of blood flow. It is estimated that approximately 972 million people or 26.4% have hypertension inhabitant with a ratio of 26.6% men and 26.1% women. The spread of hypertension in Samarinda each year has increased significantly, one of the factors in order to prevent hypertension which has a great impact is sleep quality. Purpose: To determine the relationship between sleep quality to an increased risk of blood pressure in teenage years aged 15 - 17 at SMK 2 Samarinda. Method: The type of this research is a descriptive correlation study, using a crosssectional study design. The study used sampling techniques with a sample of 93 total sampling. Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between between sleep quality to an increased risk of blood pressure in teenage years aged 15 - 17. From the results obtained by Chi Square test showed p value = 0.003 thus the p value is smaller than alpha 0.05 which makes Ho rejected, it can be concluded that
there is a significant relationship between sleep quality to an increased risk of blood
pressure in teenage years aged 15 17. Conclusion: Based on this research can be concluded that there is a relationship between sleep quality to an increased risk of blood pressure in teenage years aged 15 17 at SMK 2 Samarinda, year of 2014.
