Education, the graduation rites of which

welcomes Professor Maria Theresa Z.
Gamboa as the new director of the

Office for Alumni Affairs. She began this another

milestone in her career on January 28, 2015.
The new head vows to promote programs
and projects that will support the alumni in their
chosen fields of endeavour and encourage
them to remain participative in the Universitys
commitment to social transformation.
In April 2010, Professor Gamboa finished
Master of Arts in Nursing at San Pablo Colleges
with Meritus Award. She is also a proud alumna
of Wesleyan University-Philippines, Bachelor of
Science in Nursing (Batch 1987).
Professor Gamboa had been an Academic Instructor in the WU-P College of Nursing
and Allied Medical Sciences from June 2010 to
November 2012. She also teaches at the graduate school in this university. ###

full attention for it is the substantial asset of
the university. For this reason; the president
restated the three-fold mandate to the
OAA to be of service to the alumni,
community and the university.

In response, Maria Theresa Z. Gamboa shared that the office continues to

enhance the connection with WU-P
alumni through Facebook. From 2,645
friends (as of February 2015), it has now
5,000 friends and still counting (June 2015).
The office is also sending an e-card (via
Facebook) to all alumni who are celebrating their birthdays. Gamboa shared
that there are more upcoming plans to
maintain and strengthen communication
with the alumni.

OAA launches
new programs
and projects
To strengthen communication and show
that the university continues to care for
its alumni, the Office for Alumni Affairs
(OAA) launched its new projects and programs on June 5, 2015 at the WU-P Executive Lounge.
Maria Theresa Z. Gamboa, newly appointed director of OAA, introduced the Piso Mo, Kalusugan Ko!
and the Wesleyan Alumni Privilege Program (WAPP) to
the academic heads and deans, administrative
heads, merchant partners and alumni who attended
the launching event.
The Piso Mo, Kalusugan Ko! is a feeding program
intended at helping identified malnourished children
at Brgy. Pangatian, Cabanatuan City, to achieve a
desirable nutritional status by providing well-balanced
meals every day.
Moreover, the office coordinates with the
Wesleyan Community Outreach Program (WESCOP)
headed by Dr. Apolinar M. Alfonso, and with the rest
of the academic and non-academic units of the university.
Meanwhile, WAPP was created to uplift services to
our alumni thereby encouraging their participation
and cooperation to our programs and activities. It is a
membership program open to all graduates of
Wesleyan University-Philippines (WU-P). It encompasses
all benefits and privileges that are accorded our
alumni like scholarship or tuition fee discount, use of
facilities and many more.

After few months of waiting for the

result, Geastyne logged-on to the Professional

Regulation Commission (PRC) website and happily read his name as the second place among
the Top 10. He also learned about his achievement through texts and calls from friends and

Center, where he took his review.
Geastyne shared that he did hope to
make it on the top ten. I prayed for help and
guidance. When I ranked second, I was so happy
and blessed that God truly gave more than
what I asked for.He preceded sending text
messages of gratitude to his friends, his
Wesleyan Family, and his academic and clinical
instructors.
He also received a courtesy call from the
University President who personally congratulated him for the achievement that he also
gave to his alma mater. Sobra akong over-

Geastyne shared his secret, strategies and good habits to all the nursing
graduates who will take the board exam.
My best advice is, if you feel that you
are not ready at sa tingin mo hindi pa
enough ang knowledge that you have, then
do not take the exam. Hindi naman bastabasta ang NLE. Nakakalungkot din if ever
na hindi ka pumasa.
Review with your own style. During
your college days you have probably discovered a learning strategy that works
for you. I believe I learned better by reviewing at night when all were quiet. Post

Affairs created the Wesleyan Alumni Privilege
Program (WAPP).
WAPP is a membership program open to all graduates of
Wesleyan. It is created to encourage alumni to stay connected
and participate in the Universitys programs and activities. This
is one way of uplifting and formalizing the services or privileges
accorded the graduates of Wesleyan. An Alumni Plus Card will
be issued to all the members of the program.

1. This privilege card contains the cardholders name, picture, control number and expiration
date. At the back, a signature panel is provided. The cardholder will be asked to affix his/
her signature on it.
2. The card is non-transferable and privileges cannot be extended to another user.
3. The card is valid until the date of expiration stipulated therein. To continue enjoying privileges, it is encouraged that it be renewed at least one week before expiration.
4. Tampered and defective cards will not be honored.
5.

Lost or stolen card should be reported at once to the Office for Alumni Affairs. A replacement card can be availed of for a minimal fee of P120. 00. The same expiration date
will be retained. However, if the expiration date is near and the member opted to renew
it, he may do so and the expiration date will then be adjusted to the date of renewal.

Use of the card

1.

The cardholder should present the card before purchase or paying bills to avail discounts
from participating establishment.

2.

The establishment reserves the right

to validate the card. A supporting ID
may be required.

3.

PISO MO, KALUSUGAN KO!

ACTION AGAINST MALNUTRITION

alnutrition has always been one of the

major health problems in our country. It
is evident even in our embraced community in Pangatian, Cabanatuan City.
Malnourished children were identified
and efforts are initiated through our outreach programs.
In response to this problem, the Office for Alumni
Affairs created a feeding program entitled Piso Mo,
Kalusugan Ko! aimed at helping identified malnourished
children achieve a desirable nutritional status through provision of well-balanced meals every day. Collaboration will
be undertaken to maximize the results of this program.
Office for Alumni Affairs coordinates and works with
the Wesleyan Community Outreach Program (WESCOP)
headed by Dr. Apolinar M. Alfonso, and the different academic departments and administrative units of the
Wesleyan University-Philippines.
The GOAL of the feeding program is to be able to
engage the alumni in a tangible project that will benefit
the less-fortunate children in the community. Specifically,
the Office for Alumni Affairs aims:

To help malnourished children attain a desirable

health through provision of well-balanced meals,
medical assistance and health teachings.

2. To promote participation of the alumni in a

community program through volunteer works
and/or logistic assistance.

Implementation Phase
1. Children will be fed meals every day in a predeter mined area like the health center to ensure that food is prepared and served properly
and caloric requirements are met,
2. Nursing students will be asked to conduct health
teaching sessions for the children and their
mothers.
3. Alumni volunteers will be given tasks
4. Monitoring evaluation and documentation will
be done by the Office. A child graduates from
the program once desired body weight is
achieved.
5. Selection of new enrolees to the program will be
done depending on the fund generated.

Memoir that will last FOREVER!

GRAND ALUMNI HOMECOMING 2014

The Alumni Homecoming was one
of the highlights of the week-long celebration of the 68th founding anniversary
of Wesleyan University Philippines. It
was held at the university auditorium on
February 15, 2014.
With the theme WATTA (Wesleyan
Alumni through the Age), the homecoming became an avenue for former
friends and acquaintances to meet and
reminisce the good-old-days. A total
of 452 alumni wore the fashion statement of the decade which added to
the prestige and excitement of the
event. The former Director of Alumni
Affairs Wilfredo C. Ramos, gave thanks
to all the alumni who attended the
event though the preparation was
done only for two months.

Wesleyan University-Philippines Nursing Alumni Association-USA

The very first Grand Nursing Alumni Homecoming was a
tremendous success. It was held at the university gymnasium on
July 19-20, 2013. It was attended by alumni from various countries particularly in United States of America (USA).
It is note-worthy to mention that the WUPNAA-USA has
been conceived by a group of alumni and faculty through the
initiative of their former dean, Dr. Norma Corpuz-Rabara, who
migrated to the United States together with her family in 1990.

I am grateful to all the people behind the preparation which simply proved
to be worthy of exaltation, he added.
Moreover, Alumni President Proceso T. Domingo shared his happiness in
the grandiosity of the celebration .
Following his speech immediately was University President Pacifico B.
Aniag. He said that he was inspired by all the alumni (both from the academe and outside) for attending the momentous event. He mentioned that
the many successes of university are because of its graduates who helped in
most of the projects, infrastructures and in other noble causes.
He further encouraged the alumni to always keep in
touch to preserve the Wesleyan spirit alive.

Through the efforts of Dean Rabara the alumni association remains very active up to present and in fact resulted to
the birth of different chapters in USA and numerous countries.
The chapters created are: East Coast Chapter (1990),
Texas Chapter (2003), California Chapter (2005) Florida Chapter (2008), Midwest Chapter(2008). Canada Chapter (2008),
Pacific Northwest Chapter (2010), Philippine Chapter (2002),
Middle East Chapter (2010), and WUPNAA Emirates and
Middle East (2010) Other chapters expected to organize are
United Kingdom, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and hopefully more.

There were 452 alumni from different colleges who attended the event. This
is surely memorable because I had a chance, once again, to talk with my
college friends and classmates. Madami ang tumaba, yung iba parang hindi
tumatanda and of course I am so happy that the university is getting more
beautiful not just with its facilities but also with the quality of education. Sulit
ang pag-uwi ko from the states. May ikwe-kwento at babaunin ako pabalik.

November 11 - 15, 2015, the association will have a grand reunion to be held in Abu Dhabi & Dubai,
UAE. Itinerary will include two (2) days in Dubai (Nov. 12 & 13) and two (2) days in Abu Dhabi (Nov. 14 &15).

Awarding Night and Dinner Dance will be held in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 15. Celebrants are Class '80, Class '85 and
Class '90 on their 35th, 30th, and 25th Anniversary respectively.
