ADDRESSING THE INCREASING NUMBER OF DIABETIC PATIENTS THROUGH
THE APPLICATION OF DESCRIPTIVE, PREDICTIVE AND PRESCRIPTIVE
ANALYSES 1.
Background of the problem:
Diabetes in the Philippines is a growing health problem affecting the lives of 9.7 percent of the adult population in 2012. This number tends to double if we add the 12.5 percent of Filipinos at-risk of diabetes with impaired glucose tolerance. Filipinos are regarded to belong to a high-risk diabetic population which should be addressed to determine the underlying cause on the risk and act upon the causes to minimize or control the growing number.
2. Introduction of the problem
This study will determine the underlying reasons of increasing number of diabetic patients by considering the lifestyle and the type of food intake the Filipinos are exposed to. The data shouldn't come as a surprise for a carbohydrate-loading nation, whose staple meals include rice, bread, sweet potato, corn and other food with high levels of sugar content. Thus, type of lifestyle of Filipinos particularly the food consumption affects the increasing number of diabetic patients. (Historical data should be placed here) 3. Possible Solution to the Problem If the statistics of diabetic patients will keep on rising with unchanged lifestyle of Filipinos, it is possible that population with diabetes will not only increase twice, but also three times in the future. Other possible illnesses and sickness may also arise due to possible increase in the posssible recorded complications caused by diabetes. With the alarming data increase, the government and non-government agencies should create a program or health plan or program that may help Filipinos to address the problem. Morevoer, to address this problem, proper diet and right choice of lifestyle should be observed by Filipinos which includes decrease in the intake of staple meals and food with high levels of sugar content.

DEFINITION OF THE TYPES OF ANALYTICS:
Descriptive Analytics, which use data aggregation and data mining techniques to provide insight into the past and answer: What has happened? - The current status or situation of diabetes in the philippines by providing the historical data/ statistics covering probably 10 years.
Predictive Analytics, which use statistical models and forecasts techniques to
understand the future and answer: What could happen? If the current situation is maintained or becomes worst, what might possibly happen with the Filipino lifestyle and health?
Prescriptive Analytics, which use optimization and simulation algorithms to advice
on possible outcomes and answer: What should we do? possible solution to the problem of the current situation
