Introduction
Cars are an important part of most human life. Some see it as a necessity and some
see it as a luxury. Many use car as a status symbol. Many others love driving the cars
for passion. There are various lookouts for peoples approach towards car. But
everyone like to add a little spice to the cars. Some Like it fresh and shining as it
came out of the showroom whereas some want is dusty matte once the shine from the
showroom is gone. Some like the classic silver rims while other like the sporty black
ones. No matter what but everyone wants his or her car to be a maintained. They want
their car to look new different and always-in good shape on the road.
Thus this business plan will provide them with what they want. It will provide them
with all their requirements on their fingertips and make it easy for them to maintain
their cars in at affordable prices. Most of the people in India do not go to the
showroom for repairs once their free maintenance and service is finished. Generally
people do not go for company provided facilities because they do basic works at
higher prices and the work done is not to the customer satisfaction. Thus customers go
for local auto works shops because they give good service and at a price lower than
the company provided services. Thus it seem a great opportunity to provide people
with good quality customization and repair services with good access and new
technology at affordable prices.

Steps To Go By For The Start-Up

Specify your expected revenue for the first few years.
Aside from knowing where business will come from, you also need to know how
much and how fast the business can be expected to grow. Be able to articulate
where, specifically, money will come from, as well as what operational expenses will
be. For instance, initial and recurring costs must be recorded, as well as a loan
repayment plan, and the level of profits that are expected each month or quarter.

Forecast these figures for the first three years after opening.

Decide on the prices your shop will charge for specific services. These can be
used alongside your anticipated customer projections to determine revenue
estimates.

Establish a break-even point. This is the point at which the business will be
generating revenue, as opposed to spending money as it gets up and running. It may
take longer to break even than you initially realize.
Determine the amount of funding youll need.
Simply stated, you need to know how much money youll need to open the business
and maintain operations until your shop starts generating revenue. If you intend to
borrow money by way of a loan, it is especially important to determine a concrete
dollar amount to ask for. Unfortunately, there's no ballpark number, since differences
in location, equipment, and shop size can cause start-up costs for auto body repair
shops to fluctuate considerably.
This is partly why is so important to develop a solid business plan, as it is the best
way to accurately estimate your start-up costs.
Know that SBA-insured loans are one of the best sources of funding for a small
business. This is another reason you should follow the SBAs guidelines when
developing your business plan.

Overestimate equipment and materials expenses.

Equipment expenses are commonly underestimated. While you may be able to save
money buying used equipment, there is a greater chance of unforeseen costs
associated with maintaining older equipment. A good rule of thumb: estimate your
initial equipment and inventory expenses and increase the number by thirty percent.
While this may seem like a huge amount of money, it's far better to wind up spending
less than expected than it is to wind up needing to borrow more.

For example, if you estimate needing Rs 100,000 dollars' worth of equipment

to open the shop, plan to secure funding for Rs 130,000 dollars' worth of
equipment.

Make a detailed list of all the equipment youll need and its cost. This should
include everything: lifts, wheel balancers, hoists, paint guns, paint mask, and
the decorations in the reception area.

If you intend to lease some equipment, consider a SBA-backed loan, which may offer
you a low interest loan with no down payment to pay for equipment.
Conduct formal market analysis.
Assess whether a market exists for the type of business you hope to open. In the most
basic sense, a comprehensive business plan helps identify potential issues before they
arise. In particular, ensure that theres actually business to get.
Specific statistics to look out for include the number, age, and types of vehicles in the
area youre considering. Additionally, find out what insurance companies are
commonly used in the area, and how many similar businesses youd be competing
with.

Be willing to invest in the best location you can find.

In simplest terms, plan to open an auto body shop in the best location you can afford.
In particular, you want a location that is easily accessible from major roads. Ensure
any location youre considering is zoned for commercial use. Taking out a slightly
larger loan to help finance a business in a location where it is more likely to succeed
may even allow for you to negotiate a lower interest rate.
Develop relationships with paint and parts companies.
Large businesses that you may want to work with can offer you a wealth of
knowledge, and potentially even assist you. Often, these companies will make
business development consultants available to potential new partners. Some may even
be willing to help with your business plan, as your success would potentially lead to
further business for them.

Further, they may help you with marketing. They will have access to
marketing data, and will be up-to-date on new technologies and marketing
practices. You can also likely find quick assistance from business partners
regarding layout and design of your marketing materials.

Establish positive relationships with specific employees at suppliers. This will likely
help ensure the supply channels you will rely on once your business is open run
smoothly.
Specify your marketing intentions.
Marketing plans are some of the most important features of a solid business plan. The
options are endless: consider flyers, print ads in local publications, and online
advertising. When writing about the services and products youll provide, describe
them as though whom ever is reading them knows nothing about auto body repair. In
particular, outline how what you offer will be different from what competitors already
offer.

Reach out to the local auto-restoration community. People who frequently work on
classic or antique cars will often work with auto body shops. You can even offer
people who are active in these communities discounts, knowing that they may
valuable sources of recurring business.
Contact auto insurance representatives.
It may prove to be extremely lucrative to be on insurance companies recommended
repair facility lists. Often, people will ask their insurance companies who to go to for
service, particularly when they anticipate their insurance company paying for some or
all of the service. By developing good relationships with those companies directly,
youll bring in additional customers.
Feel free to be direct. Ask insurance company representatives how you can get on the
recommended repair facilities list.
Interview and hire employees
While experience is highly valuable, its also vital that your employees are
trustworthy and polite. Personable service leads to happier customers, better reviews,
and more business. More simply, friendly, happy employees lead to happy customers.
Hire accordingly.
Include detailed estimates of anticipated labor costs in your business plan as well. For
instance, employer-paid taxes and benefits will likely lead to high labor costs than you
would foresee based only on the going hourly rate for auto techs.
Register your auto body and customization shop.
You'll need to register your business with the city, state and federal government. Since
specific registration requirements will vary, contact your states Registrar for
information on the requirements in your area. Plan to prove that you have ownership
or permission to use the facilities where your shop is located, as well as proof of the
appropriate zoning. Further, youll need proof of an official business name, as well as
proof of workers compensation insurance.

10

Ensure that your business will meet body shop regulations.

Your shop will be generating hazardous wastes that will affect both air and water
quality near your facility. Accordingly, you must demonstrate that you are consistently
meeting both state and federal regulations. The regulations youll need to meet depend
on what services you offer at your shop, as well as its location and proximity to
municipal facilities. Find your states guide to environmental compliance for auto
repair shops on the Environmental Protection Agency website.

11

Necessities
Look for a wide space or building
The first thing that we have to do is look for an adequate building preferably 40 x
100 to house all your customers cars. Make sure that the building has concrete,
electrical, finishing, etc. If the building does not have these, install or have it added.
Dont forget that your custom car shop needs to offer bodywork. Thus, we may need
another 2 bays or less. The first bay is for the preparation and finishing while the
other is for the painting booth.
Have the Necessary Tools and Equipment .Also, dont forget the equipment that you
will use for the body work. More likely, we need to have the following:

Air compressor

Refrigerated evaporating system

Jitter bugs, dual-action sanders

Sanding blocks

Masks and paint suits

A cabinet to keep solvents, paints, and cleaners

HVLP guns of different sizes

Lift

Air tools (like impact, air nozzle, etc)

Tools to stock boxes

Parts washer

Diagnostic machine

Rebuilding counters

Woodworking tools

Fiberglass tools

Electrical tools for stereo and complete body wiring

Phew

The list begins but it does not end here. Be sure that you get these tools and
equipment from reliable supplier.

15

Each job or project will be on a reservation basis, although we will accept a small

Competitive Comparison
The auto repair industry is highly competitive. Each company within this field has
high capital costs, low margins, and a high intensity of competition. Suppliers have a
great deal of power in setting and negotiating the prices of their productsand services
to repair shops. This is due to the fact that the suppliers who absorb thegreatest
amounts of cash from repair shops are large auto part companies. These companies
are more consolidated that the repair industry, have deeper pockets, an almost
limitless number of substitute customers, and finally they are the single most
important supplier .
Therefore, these companies can set whatever price they wish to. Furthermore, labor is
a supplier in this industry as well, and salaries for such individuals are well known
and not very flexible. In addition, because the customers see the service as
undifferentiated and a "commodity" with little value separation between competitors

16

(if they offer a suitable level of quality) buyer power is also very high. Additionally,
the costs of our services are not cheap, and buyers are willing to search for the most
favorable combination of price and acceptable service. The barriers to entry and exit
are moderately low in this industry. Switching costs are virtually non-existent and the
costs to entry and exist the market are low. The large number of competitors in this
field including substitutes means that the pricing for such services is very competitive.
The only way to have an advantage in this industry is a low cost leadership principal
applied aggressively to all aspects of the business or to build up customer relations to
a point where the switching costs are raised.
Technology
The technological revolution in computers has enhanced our abilities to diagnose and
repair our clients vehicles. Automization Inc. will remain on the cutting edge by
instituting the use of computer diagnostic equipment in its shop. The company will
continue to seek new ways to provide a better service through technology.
Market Analysis Summary
Since Automization Inc. will be able to service any vehicle on the road, including
campers, it does not make any sense to segment our market. Our potential customer
includes every household in Mumbai that owns one or more vehicles. The industry
does not have any seasonality that affects it.

17

Competition and Buying Patterns And Business Strategies

While many customers looking to purchase automotive repair services are concerned
with price, the primary concern is with building a relationship of trust between
themselves and their service provider. A large number of people within the country
have experienced or heard of bad service encounters within this market. As a person's
car is usually connected in one way or another with that individual's livelihood, a
dependable automobile is crucial. Therefore, many clients are willing to pay a little
more for a mechanic they feel does a quality job and understands their needs.
Business Participants

The auto repair industry is highly fragmented. In fact, there are so many small
providers that any company in this industry is facing a purely competitive
environment. It is very difficult tocreate a differentiation, or niche, strategy in this
environment and until Automization Inc. is able to establish a reputation for quality,
on time, superior customer service, the company will seek a low cost role. Once it has
achieved what management believes to be a sufficient reputation for its services along
with a profitable customer base, the company plans to leverage this advantage into a
differentiation strategy that will be able to charge more for its services.
Competitive Edge
Automization Inc. Auto's competitive edge lies in the vision of its partners, who
understand better than many of their rivals that a service visit does not just include
repairing a client's car, it includes the entire service experience from the first time a
client talks to their mechanic until they decideto stop driving. The long-term
profitability of a service firm of this type lies in the repeat customer that finds
Automization Inc. 's services an excellent experience, despite the fact that they usually
have suffered a inconvenient breakdown. The company will seek to examine ALL
aspects of the service experience to seek ways to improve its customer satisfaction. In
addition all employees will be rigorously trained and retrained to think about

18

customer satisfaction in order to create a self-sustaining company culture that

revolves around this issue.
Positioning Statement
It is the express purpose of Automization Inc. to become the local leader in quality
and service experience of all the small (non-dealerships) automotive repair firms
within the Seattle area while maintaining a low cost plan. Once a reputation for
quality and service experience is created, and an ongoing network of referrals is
bringing in new business, the company plans to re-evaluate its strategy and
positioning within the market to see if a differentiation strategy is viable. If so, this
will allow the company to raise prices and increase profit margins in relation to its
rivals. This in turn is expected to leverage long-term growth until Automization Inc.
can reach a regional scope of operations.
Marketing Strategy
The company has a modest program of marketing its services that include the
following:

Flyers.

Direct mailers.

Discounts.

Newspaper ads.

Yellow pages.

Referrals through other local businesses.

Social Media Marketing

Each of these marketing approaches has the advantage of being low cost and creating
service awareness. The company's long-term marketing goals are to use local radio
and TV ads similar to the Les Schwab Tire Center ads.
The company is also investigating the possibility of having a grand opening program
that would feature discounts, food, a local radio disc jockey, and other promotional
ideas.

19

Promotion Strategy

The principal owners of Automization Inc. expect that a significant number of their
pre-existing clients (where Ford and Ronald currently work) will desire to switch to
Automization Inc. o retain theservices of their personal mechanics. This will provide a
sufficient income until AUTOMIZATION INC. can build up a reputation and see its
marketing program take effect.
This promotion strategy will take the form of flyers, direct mailers, price discounts,
and advertisements in newspapers and yellow pages. AUTOMIZATION INC. does
not desire to spend a large amount on marketing until the firm is ready to expand
either into new facilities or open up new ones. It is estimated this will occur sometime
after year five.
Pricing Strategy
Automization Inc. exists in a purely competitive environment where each firm must
be a price taker. In other words, the firm has no ability to affect the market price of its
services, regardless of how many automobiles it repairs. In this case, therefore,
marginal revenue (the revenue incurred by producing or servicing one more unit) is
equal to the price charged. Furthermore, because the demand curve is essentially
horizontal, Automization Inc. can service automobiles at total capacity without
effecting the price.
What all of this means for Automization Inc. is that the company must seek to charge
its clients at the market price (or lower). Research has shown that the average price is
approximately $400 per vehicle. As long as marginal costs do not exceed revenues,
the method to maximize short- run profits is to service automobiles at maximum
capacity. This means that Automization Inc. can expect an ROA of approximately
4.5%

20

Sales Forecast
Since the automotive repair industry is, operationally, a job-shop environment, it is
somewhat difficult to estimate sales. For job-shops, each individual product or service
is tailored or unique to that job, and is only initiated once an order is made. However,
the sales forecast reflect the professional opinion of Mr. Arun Kumar in how much
sales he will make based on the following assumptions:

The number of clients we can attract from their previous companies.

The effect of planned promotions and word-of-mouth marketing.

Current prices and costs of doing business.

The types of automobiles and jobs that will occur in every month.

For the most part, sales for an automobile repair firm are steady year round and reflect
little seasonality.

21

The App
There would be an app with variety of facilities available on our mobile application
and the website Some of the services will be listed below

All Customization on any car is available in the app with estimates and virtual
Image of the car after customization.

Every detail of the car parts used is scanned before they are used which gives
a quick update on the app to the customer with its price and genuineness.

Customer can access the CCTV surveillance through the app when their car is
being repaired or customized to see the quality of work done.

Application offers will be a good marketing strategy for the company

Car Wash and Polish At Home

This is a new service we would like to come up with which would also act as an
marketing strategy for our app. We would provide Car wash and polish at home. All
the app user need to do is schedule a time and our professionally trained personnel
would be their with our equipment necessary at the given time at the users home.
The biggest challenge is Indian people generally pay their Security guards or drivers
to wash theirs cars.
We cannot get the personal drivers but definitely we can tap the security guards. We
can make an agreement to pay them more than what the owners pay but they have to
use our professional services through proper training and also ask them to use the app
to avail the services.
We can also make tie ups with the Driving agencies to make our service available
rather than making the drivers washing the cars.

22

Marketing of the App

Start marketing your app long before its launch date.
Your marketing efforts start the moment you begin working on your app. This concept
will serve as the foundation for your app marketing efforts. Your marketing
investment starts soft at the beginning, continues to build, and eventually peaks with
its arrival in the app stores.
Engage potential customers, users, and other interested people early and often.
Seek out potential customers as early on in the app creation process as possible. These
should be real app users who can provide quality feedback and eventually become the
champions of your app.
Twitter is a good tool to make initial contact because its filled with tech-savvy early
adopters and influencers. Free tools like BuzzSumo, Social Crawlytics and Topsy can
help you identify the most important people in your industry as well as the industry
content important enough to tweet and share. Just make sure to keep your tweets
focused on your customers as well as their problems (and potential solutions).
Monitor the power and reach of these early outreach efforts to identify best practices
going forward.
Do not underestimate the importance of email.
With the prominence of social media, email is often overlooked. Its critical though to
capture email addresses and build your email list. Whether through Twitter cards,
landing pages, or comparable tools, you need to capture addresses and grow your list.
Email marketing is powerful, but possibly more importantly it appeals to a broader
audience. Your email audience will likely reflect the majority of users, not the techsavvy, early adopters. These are your normals. Our favorite options include
SumoMe, Campaign Monitor, MailChimp.

23

Its never too late to start blogging.

Consider starting a blog dedicated to updating your growing fan base on the
progression of the apps development. Ask for input on key features and let them
stake a claim in the creation of your app. Whether its WordPress, Tumblr, or even
Squarespace, there are plenty of very easy options to use.
Blogging is important in not only building interest around your app but solidifying it
as an integral voice for your communications. It also provides more search visibility.
Target keywords, craft quality content, and link out to other industry influencers to
improve your blogs search engine rankings. Use Google Adwords Keyword Planner
to help determine the keywords you want to rank for. Remember, however, that your
primary purpose is providing content that your customers want and need.
Get sneaky with sneak peeks and teasers.
Humans are visual creatures, which is why "sneak peeks" work so well. A sneak peek
might include screenshots from your app, a video promo, or in some cases, even just
text like in a blog post describing what your app will be about.
Sneak peeks can drive hundreds, if not thousands, of email signups and provide a ripe
list for getting early, interested users.
Beta testers will make your app better and more marketable.
Put out a call for beta testers. These testers can easily become your apps biggest
supporters and word-of-mouth marketers. They also serve as an unparalleled resource
for further targeted audience research. In some cases, the allure of a closed beta can
draw even more excitement around your app, rewarding those who are already close
to the concept, and building interest in those who, until this point, have been just out
of reach.

24

Get your press kit and launch materials in order.

Just before you submit your app for review, prepare your launch content. This may
include your full website, press releases, promo video, app store screenshot, and other
announcement-related content.
You should also start gauging media contacts for interest in reviewing your app. Dont
be shy to reach out to big name bloggers and industry influencers for that initial
explosion of attention. Remember though, your fans and customers will provide the
longest lasting promotion
Marketing begins the day you put your mobile app idea into production. But not
everyone has a budget for marketing. Contrary to popular belief, most effective
marketing strategies don't require any spending at all. In my last column, "4 Essentials
for Successful Mobile Apps," I offered advice on what makes a mobile app
successful, with one of the key ingredients being a well-thought-out marketing
strategy. But how to put that strategy in place ?
From the period before you launch your app to after it goes on the market, here are six
important marketing strategies. While they may require time and perseverance, they
involve little or no money.
Make your press kit pop.
Your press kit should include information about the problem you're solving, but not
enough detail to completely give the product away. Key components include a highresolution logo, sample design screens, an app icon, a press release, a microsite and a
teaser video. Make sure you have a fantastic name and icon for your app that's catchy
and connects with the audience instantly. The first paragraph of the app description
should be your selling pitch and app store screenshots should be customized to attract
your customer.
One of the most under-rated, but highly effective strategies is app store marketing.
Because a lot of people browse with keyword searches, select your keywords wisely
by researching successful competitors.

25

Build an enticing microsite.

This two to three page website aggregates all the information about the product.
While a lot of downloads will come directly through app stores, a huge amount of
traffic is driven through the web. For example, the Path app's microsite homepage
greets visitors with the tagline: "Private messaging and sharing with friends and
family" directly above a sign-up prompt at the top of the page. This is designed to
hook new user as soon as they hit the landing page, before they've gotten all the
information they need on the app.
Create a teaser or giveaway campaign.
Build a teaser or giveaway offer into your microsite and invite people to share their
email address to stay updated on when your app launches. This helps build a database
of people interested in your app. For example, a teaser video that came out before an
app called Analog Camera came out last month, offered demos of how the app would
work without going into a full explanation or revealing the release date. Instead the
video lead you to a microsite with the message: "Sign up and you'll be the first to
know when Analog Camera launches!" -- a clever way to gather potential customers
early.
Keep content fresh.
Do this by creating a blog linked to your microsite. This is important because blog
posts are indexed by Google. Keeping your content fresh will drive a lot of inbound
traffic to your website. You can also make your presence cohesive on social media
platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Digg and Stumbleupon by sharing your
blog posts with an active audience. Always think about how your content can be of
value to a follower. For example, Angry Birds' social media strategy includes sneak
peeks of new game levels and versions, special offers and real-life examples of people
enjoying the game.

26

Build hype.
Once your app is ready to be submitted to the app store, be sure to set a release date
and plan publicity around the launch.
Get in touch with tech blogs and publications likely to write about your product.
Personalize your email with links to the press kit and microsite. If you haven't heard
from them in a week, send a reminder. If they did not cover your product initially,
reach out again after your launch with download statistics and customer testimonials.
Some popular sites like 148 Apps, App Advice and Macworld can help spread the
word about your app. After it launches, write to them for a review of your app. There's
a large audience that reads recommendations online when deciding what to download.
Ask customers for feedback.
The more positive the ratings are for your app, the better chance it has of being
downloaded. That's why it's worth it for you to build a code into your application
asking users to rate it. Make sure to include contact information at the end of your app
description or use a software development kit such as Appsfire to let people send
feedback from a notification inbox. You can then reach out to unhappy users, resolve
their issues and ask them to leave a rating on the app store if they were satisfied.
Converting unhappy users to happy ones will improve your ratings.
The main investment in these tactics is your time, persistence and creativity. Armed
with these three qualities, you can get over a million eyeballs for your app in a very
short time.

27

Analysis Of Customer Survey

28

29

30

31

Conclusion
Based on the Customer analysis and the investment analysis it is more likely that
about 70% of the car owners around Mumbai would like to avail our services thus it
sounds to be a great business opportunity which has not been tapped properly yet.
Definitely there are too many challenges regarding the traditional approaches of car
