auction events in the Upper Midwest. The local community would like to welcome you to Long Prairie where
we have several lodging and eating establishments ready to serve you. This auction will again be featuring
several complete, partial and individual farmer and dealer consignments. You can expect many more items
by the auction date than listed, as consignments will be arriving daily. Consignments will be accepted until
Wednesday, September 7th at 5:00 p.m. whether previously consigned or not. Sale Schedule: 8:30 a.m. sharp
Ring #1 will be selling a small load of miscellaneous items, then right on to shop tools, ATVs, lawn & garden
equipment, followed by as many rows as possible in the main lot before 11:00 a.m. at which time we will begin
selling on the north end of row #1. This is the row adjacent to Highway 71 and working our way westward in
the main lot until all rows in main lot are sold. Ring #2: At approx. 8:45 will begin selling the northwest lot with
building materials, tires, livestock items and miscellaneous items. Ring #3: At approx. 9:00 a.m. will begin
selling farm equipment and miscellaneous rows in the west lot. At approx 1:00 p.m. ring #3 will begin selling
the east/west rows in the south lot which includes most vehicles, trailers and farm machinery in those rows.
As we will be selling in multiple rings, please bring a friend so as not to miss any items. MN sales tax will
apply on all taxable items. Transfer fees, sales tax and registration on all titled items the day of the auction.
Parking: There will be basically no parking space at auction site. Parking lots with shuttle service to and
from the auction site will be running all day. The best parking is located 2 blocks north and 2 blocks west of
auction site. Please do not park in the lots of area businesses as Saturday is an important day of commerce
and they will need this space for their customers. Terms: Please review all terms of auction company. All

Floerkes build home using farm elements

and Bob Floerke sit in the porch of their
home west of Round Prairie, it seems
like theyve been there forever. There
is the farm where Janna grew up, the
place they visited for the 38 years they
lived in Inver Grove Heights and now,
the place they call home.
Having bought the 140-acre property from her mother 11 years ago, the
Floerkes have worked on every building
on the property.
Everything you see here has always been here, Janna said.
Everything, that is, except the home
they started building last summer and
DUHQRZQLVKLQJWKHSURFHVVRIPRYLQJ
into.
Now were just waiting for the
grass to grow, Bob said.
+DYLQJQDOO\JRWWHQWKHRSSRUWXQLty to move back to the country has been
a long-awaited dream. And for them,
having lived in the Cities for so long, it
was important that the home they built
be all country.
Ironically, their favorite part of the
home, the porch, was not even in the
plans but developed later. Originally, it was to be an open, outdoor space
covered with a roof. Now its a weather-proof, screened-in space they can enMR\DOO\HDU$QGLWLVFRXQWU\IURPRRU
WRFHLOLQJ7KHRRULVVWDPSHGFRQFUHWH
with the look of wood planking. The
lower walls are cement board and the
upper walls, bead board. But perhaps
the most country feature in the porch
is the metal ceiling made from grain bin
steel.
When the idea came up, I thought
it was a little weird, but it grew on me,
said Janna.
Now its one of their favorite feaWXUHV$QRWKHULVWKHWKLQH[LEOHZLQdows that move up and down, with
sections that slide together, creating an
open, airy feeling of being outside. Gracing the porch is a wooden rocking chair
that belonged to Bobs great-grand-
perfections of the wood as they were,

even inserting rusted nails into holes left
by previous nails.
The whole process of building their
home has been one they enjoyed, and one
favorite memory of that time illustrates
the peace and serenity that surrounds
them. One day while they were sitting
outside having lunch with the crew that
built the home, they thought they heard
a train. They dismissed it, thinking there
were none around. The next day they
heard the same sound at the same time.
It turns out it was a train by Alexandria,
some 25 miles away.
The quiet is just one thing the Floerkes enjoy, but there are other reasons

I didnt want to lose my deer hunting spot, said Janna, pointing out the
window to her deer stand sitting at the
edge of a clearing maybe 500 yards from
their home.
Weve been deer hunting here since
we were married in 1976, she said.
These days she has a new deer stand

with windows and a heater, a request she
made when the cold started getting to
her.
I threatened to quit so Bob built me
a new one, Janna said.

Marge Anderson, who purchased the
land in 1941, Janna helped her parents on the farm from a young age.
I just loved everything about
the farm, said Janna.
After her dad passed away 30
years ago, her mother stayed on the
farm.
When people tried to convince
Marge to move into town, she said,
I can look out the window and see
a baby fawn almost any morning [in
the spring]. Why would I move to
town?

on the end of their dirt road, where
the air is crisp and clean, and theres
always something to see and to
smell. They can listen to the birds,
and occasionally, the far-off sound
of a train blowing in on a soft breeze.

We l d e r. T h e a p p l i c a n t m u s t b e s e l f - m o t i v a t e d a n d
responsible, capable of lifting 60 plus LBS on a regular basis
and capable of standing for an extended period of time. Basic
knowledge of hydraulics, 12 Volt electrical system, Air brake
systems, experience in Mig. Welding, and the ability to read
blue prints and schematics. Typical work week is MondayFriday, 6 AM to 3 PM, with an hour lunch. Benefits include:

days, holidays, retirement, and uniforms.
