Genius Hour, Ex-Stream, and

Wednesday:
Entire fourth grade will meet for
Genius Hour to work on their
passions. Will follow up with
research in individual classrooms.

EX-STREAM: Students will be able


to select activities for enrichment
thirty minutes per week.

ELA/Social Studies
ELA(English Language Arts) Resources:
Pearson Reading Street & novel studies
Social Studies Florida civics standards,
Social Studies Weekly, and document
based questions (DBQ)
The Adventures of Teddy Bodain
Literature based Social Studies

ELA Grade
Reading and Language Grades combined as

an ELA Grade.

Reading will consist of reading

comprehension, vocabulary, and skills such


as sequencing, making inferences, compare /
contrast, and authors purpose to name a
few.

Language Arts will consist of writing,

language (grammar), and spelling.

ELA Textbooks and Workbooks are used as

resources and will not be going home.

Math/Science
We are following the County Instructional Plan

which is driven by our standards.


Math and Science textbooks are both
consumables, therefore they will not come home,
but may be accessed on the ThinkCentral website
if needed.
We are looking to focus on expanding STEM
activities for our students.

Grading Scale

100 90 =
89 80 =
79 70 =

Report cards come out 3 times a year.


Conferences will replace comments.
Progress reports will only have letter grades.
Parents will able to view grades on Skyward.
Assignments receiving a grade below 70% should
be corrected, signed and returned.

Homework
Relevant homework is assigned.
Please review your childs planner every night

and initial the planner when homework


responsibilities are completed.

Students are responsible for turning in

completed homework on due date.

Please feel free to use the planner as a way

to communicate .

Graded Work / Notices


All major notices, letters and graded
work go home on Thursday in the
blue folder. Some school-wide
notices are sent home with the
youngest or only in the family. Other
information will be available only on
the school website.

Student Absences
Students must make up
missing work.
Please send in a separate
written note to excuse
your childs absence. The

note should not be written


in the planner.
Make up work due to illness
or planned absence will be
sent home after the child
returns to school.

Dress and Conduct Codes


The dress code and the students code of
conduct books can be viewed on the SCPS

website.

Please take time to view the information.

Student Lunchroom Policy


No candy or soda for lunch
Get all needed items before

your child sits down


Once seated they are not
allowed out of their seat
without permission from
lunch staff
Treat paraprofessionals
with respect
Cost $2.25 for student lunch
or reduced $0.40 and $3.25
for adults. Milk is $0.75
Breakfast cost $1.75

Lunch With Your Child


Parents are invited to eat lunch with their
child only.
Please sign in at the office.

Pick up your child at the lunchroom door.


Enjoy your lunch in the picnic table area.

It is your responsibility to return your child


to cafeteria before lunch is over.

Arrival Procedure
Fourth grade students will gather in

the PE Pavilion in the morning.


Mr. Smit or Mrs. Smalley will pick
students up at the pavilion.
They will enter their classrooms at
7:50am.
The tardy bell rings at 7:55am.

Transportation Changes
Changes in transportation can only be

to become a car rider.

Requests must be in writing and given

to the afternoon teacher .

Any other changes must be done

through the office ahead of time at

Please do not leave messages on

voicemail or email regarding


transportation!

Campus Safety
Check in at the front office before going

to morning or afternoon conferences.


Early dismissal: Pick up child at front office.
Always check in at the front office when coming on

campus. Must wear visitor tag to be on campus.

Do not pick up / drop off children on the bus ramp.

Please use the car line or let your child ride the bus.

Field Trips
Parents must have a dividend form on
file at least 2 weeks prior to field trips in

order to be a chaperone.
We are planning two trips:
Repertory Theatre TBD
St. Augustine on Friday, March 3, 2017

Class Parties
There are two scheduled parties

a year:

Winter party -- TBD


End-of-year party -- TBD
Special curriculum events will be

held throughout the year.

The dividend form is on the Heathrow

website and SCPS website.
