Removes More Solids Than Other Screens

Lakesides Raptor Fine Screen

With hundreds of installations in operation
worldwide, the Lakeside Raptor Fine Screen is
proven screening technology. This unique in-channel
bar screen not only screens wastewater but washes,
compacts and transports the screenings. Unlike
conventional bar screens, the Raptor Fine Screen's
characteristic cylindrical screen, angled installation
and screen bars of varied heights increase removal
efficiency and decrease head loss.
Because captured solids are washed, compacted and
dewatered up to a 40 percent solids content, disposal
costs are reduced. The Raptor Fine Screen also
minimizes maintenance expenses with all stainless
steel construction and a single drive. With only one
motorized moving part, the unit is durable and simple
in design.

The Lakeside Raptor Fine Screen offers a heavy duty stainless

steel rake head that penetrates the screen bars to positively
remove grease and debris without blinding and plugging.

The unit is shipped fully assembled and easily installs

into open channels for reduced installation costs.

The Design Sets Lakeside Apart

Positive Screenings Removal

Greater Removal Efficiency

The Raptor Fine Screens bar spacing ranges from 1/4

to 1/2 inches (6 to 12 mm) to remove solids that
normally pass through conventional screens. Debris
is removed from the screening area by a rotating rake
that passes through the full depth of the bars. The
Lakeside Raptor Fine Screen is the only heavy-duty
3-plane screen on the market where the rake passes
through the full depth of the basket bars.

Figure 1 shows the high removal efficiency of the Raptor Fine

Screen compared to conventional bar screens at flow rates of
250 gpm, 500 gpm, and 750 gpm.

Positive screenings removal is accomplished by the

heavy-duty rake design. Grease, rags and hair will not
plug the Raptor Fine Screen.

Tests with a wastewater solids content of 64 cubic feet per

million gallons showed that approximately 62 cubic feet of
screenings per million gallons were removed by the Raptor
Fine Screen. The removal efficiency of the screen was over 96
percent.

Engineered for Superior Operation and Performance

As liquid flows through the screening basket, solids are trapped by the screen bars that form the circular basket.
When the liquid rises to a predetermined level, the rake begins to rotate to clean the screen bars. The rakes
teeth pass between the bars of the screen to remove the screened material.
When the rake reaches the top of the screen, the captured
material drops into the central screw conveyor. For
complete cleaning, the rake reverses direction
and passes through a comb.
The central screw conveyor then
transports the screened material
to the discharge chute. While this
material is being transported, it is
washed, compacted and
dewatered. Dewatered
screenings have a solids
content exceeding 40
percent when discharged.
Screenings are initially
washed as they are deposited in the collection trough.
The screenings are washed a
second time at the upper
section of the transport tube.
The macerating action of the
screw breaks down large
organic particles which are
then washed back into the
flow stream. A spray wash
system in the dewatering
chamber removes any collected material to ensure free
drainage of water that is removed in the compaction process.
The Raptor Fine Screen can fit your needs with
bar spacings from 1/4 to 1/2 inches (6 to 12 mm)
and a screen diameter from 24 to 71 inches. The
largest single screen can handle a maximum flow
of up to 21.9 mgd. For higher capacities, multiple
screens can be installed.

The photo at right is of actual material discharged

from a Lakeside Raptor Fine Screen. Screenings
are compacted, dewatered and washed free of most
organic materials to approximately 40 percent solids.
Volume is reduced by 50 percent and weight by 67
percent, thereby reducing disposal costs.

RAPTOR Fine Screen Benefits

Simple design and operation lengthen the units
life and minimize maintenance costs. The unit
can easily pivot out of the channel for servicing.

All stainless steel construction resists corrosion.

Single operational unit screens, compacts,

dewaters, and transports solids, and provides a
high removal efficiency and low head loss.

Direct installation minimizes construction costs.

No bearings to grease and no chains to tighten.

Factory pre-wired solenoid valves save on

installation costs.

Slow operating speed and minimal number of

moving parts reduce wear caused by sand and grit,
and increase mechanical dependability.

Enclosed transport and optional bagging attachment reduce odors and offer a clean work area.

Dual spray wash systems return organic materials

to the wastewater flow.

Optional insulation and heating system available

for cold weather operation.
