criteria
P5 Regularly remind pupils of the schools code of conduct
I regularly remind children of the school's code of conduct, forexample,
walking down the corridor, not running, being sensible in thetoilets, putting
their hand up instead of shouting out, listening whenother people are talking,
being respectful of each others feelings.

P6 Take immediate action to deal with any bullying, harassment or oppressive

behaviour in accordance withyour role and responsibilities
If I witness a child showing oppressive behaviour, or a child tells methat this
has just happened to them, I take immediate action in linewith my role and
responsibilities. I ask each child to tell me whathappened and listen carefully
to each side. I then ask the childdisplaying the negative behaviour to
consider what they have donewrong and how they can go about putting
things right. I remind them ofthe schools code of conduct and advise them
not to act that way again. If the incident was a serious or an ongoing problem,
then I would informthe child's teacher at an appropriate moment so that this
message canbe reinforced
.
P7 Recognise and respond appropriately to risks to yourself and/or others
during episodes of challenging behaviour
Recently, I was supervising a girl in the nurture room who hasbehavioural
difficulties, as well as some other children. I recognisedthat she was
becoming particularly agitated, and this prompted me torespond by asking
another child in the room to fetch the member ofstaff who usually works with
this child. Shortly afterwards the childleft the room and starting barging her
way along the corridor. Mycollege arrived at that moment and she was able to
calm her down andtake her back into the nurture room.

P8 Refer incidents of inappropriate behaviour outside your area of

responsibility to the relevant staff member for action
When I witness inappropriate behaviour that I am unable to dealwith, I always
refer this to the relevant member of staff in anappropriate moment,
especially if this is a serious or an ongoing issue, for example, a child
swearing at a member of the dinner staff.

P9 Contribute to reviews of behaviour, including bullying, attendance and the

effectiveness of rewards andsanctions, as relevant to your role
When I am working with groups of children, I always feedback at
anappropriate moment to the teacher on aspects of the sessions Iundertake
eg their level of participation, understanding, and behaviour.Sometimes I
have to use sanctions with certain children who displaychallenging behaviour,
eg writing a sad face on the board next to achild's name. I am able to report
back to staff about whether or notthe child responded to this sanction so that
they know whether or notto use that method themselves if the child
misbehaves again.
P10 Provide clear and considered feedback on theeffectiveness of behaviour
management strategies
I am able to report back to staff in a clear and considered way aboutthe
effectiveness of behaviour management strategies, eg sending themout of
the session back to their classroom if they misbehave, orrewarding them with
a five minute play outside when they have finishedtheir work. Staff will then
know what strategies to use themselvesshould the situation arise again.
