Purpose of
job:

To supervise staff involved in all aspects of painting and decorating within the
Colleges buildings, sites and services to ensure the safe and uninterrupted
continuation of the Colleges activities and operations.

Qualifications:

BTEC First Diploma in Construction or equivalent technical qualification for


Painting and Decorating

Skills:

Good knowledge of building regulations, construction regulations, fire regulations,


and health and safety regulations in general
Good negotiating skills
Excellent time and management skills;
Problem-solving skills;
Excellent communication skills

Work
experience:

At least 5 years' practical experience in building maintenance


Experience of managing staff
Experience of dealing with contractors

Duties and responsibilities:

Time and frequency:

Supervise staff to ensure that they are appropriately trained and


motivated and so that they carry out their responsibilities to the
standards required.

Assist with the development of a planned maintenance programme to


ensure that sites and services continue operation without interruption
and to the required standards.
Oversee various painting and decorating projects, ensuring that work is
undertaken to the standards required and within budget and timescale.
Maintain contact with contractors to ensure that they carry out their work
to the required standards and so that they are kept aware of safety
policies and procedures
Provide technical advice and support on all matters relating to the
painting and decorating of buildings.
Maintain all necessary records of painting and decorating work carried
out.
To carry out any ad-hoc work reasonably requested by the Clerk of
Works.

Accuracy:

An eye for detail and accuracy in skill delivery is an absolute requirement of this
job role.

Responsibility for cash, purchasing or physical assets:

Responsible for overseeing internal painting and decorating workers and external contractors for
delivery of trades within financial budgets and agreed timescales.
Responsible for purchase of stock, use of plant and issue of PPE as required.

Mental, visual or physical strain:


Some potential for moderate physical strain (normal for the job role) in the course of erecting
scaffolding and climbing ladders
Exposure to occupational hazards:
Some potential for exposure to paint fumes and potentially hazardous chemical substances. It is
expected that the jobholder will comply with all health & safety policies and procedures in force in the
College and must wear any safety equipment provided.
