We have two of them at
our Church. One of our
Elders, Dave Eddie, saw it
and thought it was a good
way to communicate the
truths of the 10 Commandments in a memorable, unoffending way. The
comments I heard since
the posters went up have reads in Exodus 20, King
been interesting to say James Version:
the least.
(1) 3Thou shalt have no
other gods before me.
In case you cant read the (2) 4Thou shalt not make

(8) 15Thou shalt not steal.
(9) 16Thou shalt not bear

(10) 17Thou shalt not covet
As I mentioned before,
there have been some
interesting comments
regarding the posters.
Some people are saying
things like, cute, fun,
or thats a good way to
write it. Others are like,
blasphemy, not biblical and just plain
wrong. So with those
mixed reviews I pondered
what is biblical? Heres
the answer:

No kidding, thats it, the

10 Commandments in
Hebrew. If we translated it
word for word it would
read, Your God Adonai I
am from the house of
slaves from the land of
Egypt, brought you out.
3Not to vanity your God
the name of Adonai. 8You
shall take not for holiness

the Sabbath; remember.
12And your mother and
father honor. 13You shall
murder not. 14You shall
commit adultery not.
15You
shall steal not.
16False witness against
your neighbor not. 17You
shall bear your neighbor
house, of you shall covet
not.
I think there can be times
when we forget that the
Bible is not an English
book; it is Gods book.
Certainly some translations are wrong, but every
translation has to take

certain latitudes.
So I thought I would like
to add my own personal
translation and understanding of the 10 Commandments.
1. I have found the one
true God, I am no longer
searching.
2. Nothing in the world
compares to God.
3. I esteem God.
4. If I allow God to do His
work, He will allow me to
enter His rest.
5. I can learn to love and
to be loved.
6. Respect life.
7. Faithfulness matters.

8. I do not have to steal to

survive.
9. I do not need to lie.
10. What I have, and what
I earn, is enough.

Does Satan Shout at You????

Sometimes it seems that
no matter what you do, he
is there belittling you, trying to steal from your life
Gods joy. He is there criticizing your efforts discounting your words or
twisting them into something you had no intention
of even slightly indicating.
Is he there with what
seems, a constant litany
of correction or disparagement of yourself your
character and your ability
to serve God even in the
most miniscule of ways?
Usually he tries to trick
you by playing on your
own insecurities or hitting
on an area of of weakness you know you have.
Using just a smattering of
the truth to try and bring
complete discouragement
to your heart.
Good. You know you are
on the right track when
you are being condemned. HUH???
John 15:3-5 Already you
are clean because of the
word that I have spoken
to you. 4 Abide in me, and
I in you. As the branch
cannot bear fruit by itself,
unless it abides in the
vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I
am the vine; you are the
branches.
Whoever
abides in me and I in him,
he it is that bears much
fruit, for apart from me
you can do nothing. ESV
Romans 18:1 There is
therefore now no condemnation for those who
are in Christ Jesus. ESV

What does condemnation

feel like and what does it
look like? When you feel a
crushing of your spirit, a
sadness that pierces your
heart, a feeling of failure
to please God, and actual
pain at someones criticism.
Yes we do fail Him sometimes but, condemnation
is differentit brings with
it a malingering of smallness and insignificance in
ourself that brings doubt
to our very personhood, of
having credible value to
God. Sometimes it comes
through someone elses
knowing look, their or our
own thoughtless words or
actions.
When these things happen we often look within
for strength to overcome,
sometimes we just capitulate to Satans lies and
crumble where we are at
in our service to God.
Sometimes we are bound
and tied when someone
just simply disagrees with
usthey speak boldly and
usually with a slight rise in
their voice to make more
poignant their point, as if
that might make them
right and us wrong. When
we allow ourselves to listen to the voice of the
world and not for the Holy
Spirits voice in our own
soul we will be overcome
every time. Sit quietly in
those moments without
responding and wait for
the Spirit of the living God
to speak peace to your
heart. It takes practice if
we have spent years bow-

ing into this kind of pressure, because none of us

want to fail and none of
us want to be wrong.
We dont need to battle,
God will do it for us even
if, they never agree or
continue to tell us our failure. Truly we are His
workmanship.
Zechariah 4:6 Then he
said to me, This is the
word of the LORD to
Zerubbabel: Not by might,
nor by power, but by my
Spirit, says the LORD of
hosts. ESV
Its God working in us and
through us. Let go of the
right to be right truly He,
God will approve of and
bless our work and our
words when we are fully
submitted to him in our
words and our works. We
neednt be concerned
with the approval of anyone but Him for their final
outworking.
2Corinthians 10:4,5 We
use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons,
to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning
and to destroy false arguments. NLT
A while back as I and another friend struggled to
make any sense of why
God allowed great difficulties to be part of our lives
I felt compelled to send
this letter:
Dear friend and Fellow
Sojourner,
None of us are worthy of
being used by the Holy
God

Holy God of Heaven and

yet He does. We are His
workmanship we are His
laborers. His hands His
feet his eyes His voice to
others here on earth, of
course He can use us, He
fashions us, molds us and
turns us on the lathe of
our lives until we are
molded and continue to
be molded into the tools
He desires us to be, if we
submit ourselves to Him.
His Holy Spirit empowers
us, we have no true
strength of our own, nor
should we want it because His strength in us is
unfailing power without
end, not measured or broken or weakened by our
human conditions. We are
so much more than ourselves when He is en-

throned in our heart.

Circumstances dont dictate to a submitted child
of the king. Only God dictates to us. Trouble
comes our way when we
try to take control either
by self-blame or we accept the blame of, or criticism of others.
John 14:12 (ESV)
12 Truly, truly, I say to
you, whoever believes in
me will also do the works
that I do; and greater
works than these will he
do, because I am going to
the Father.
Its simply: Him in us He
reveals to the world. The
next verses,
John14:13-14 Whatever
you ask in my name, this I
will do, that the Father

may be glorified in the

Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do
it.
This should clarify our
part and make our lives
more manageable when
the enemy comes at us
because they reveal that
it is only Him (God) and
through His name, that
things are accomplished.
Love you, walking by you,
learning along the way.

Deserving Soup
Today, all around me I
hear the word, deserve.
Its become one of my
least favorite things.
Deserve is everywhere!
Its in the news media,
social media, and conversations we take part in or
overhear. If we are good
people doing good
things we deserve.
The problem is that as
human beings with human nature, in our
thoughts we can convince
ourselves of anything! We
can believe that we
deserve because we did
something good!
Its
similar to how much latitude is given to feeling
in our society. I did it

because it felt good, it felt

right, if it feels good do
it when, if we stop to
think for just one moment, our feelings
change constantly. So do
our thoughts. Does living
by our thoughts and feelings work? What seems
like a good idea right now
may not in a few moments. We did it because
it felt good at the time, so
we have no responsibility
for what happened
next.does that seem
right? What about regrets? What about hurting peoples feelings?
Does what we felt was
right justify causing another pain?

It makes me wonder
where we as servants of
the Lord come in. Do we
deserve special privilege
because we serve at Community Soup, or on the
Worship Team, or as a
Sunday School Teacher,
or one of the many other
areas of service it takes
to keep the church going
on a daily basis? How
does that fit in with the
teachings of Jesus? He
told us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Not to
be above or below others,
but beside them.
We
need to be so careful, because we can begin to
compare our works to
those of others, and because we allowed the

Page 5

Deserving Soup, continued

the comparison, we can
convince ourselves we are
more or less deserving
than someone else.
Take what belongs to
you and go. I choose to
give to this last worker as
I give to you. Am I not
allowed to choose what to
do with what belongs to
me? Or do you begrudge
my generosity. So the
Last shall be first, the first
last MT 20:14-16. Do we
get to put ourselves first
because we serve? How
is that spurring one another on to love and good
deeds? Hebrews 10:2324 says Let us hold fast
the confession of our
hope without wavering,
for he who promised is
faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one
another to love and good
works, not neglecting to
meet together, as is the
habit of some, but encouraging one another,
and all the more as you
see the day drawing
near.? It seems that the
minute I think I am standing firm on the word of
God I fall. Why? Probably
because I was so busy
patting myself on the
back that I got carried
away by my pride. It happens often! Jesus told us
to Honor your father and
mother, and, you shall
love your neighbor as
yourself. Matthew 19:19
He did that! He humbled
himself for us all. He died
for all that all might have
eternal life with his Father
and ours in heaven! Are
we willing to do that for

the people we serve? We

need to be careful not to
fall into the deserving
attitude. We are asked by
the Lord to serve. So
serve we will. He will do
the rest of the work. We
fall into trouble when we
decide things about the
people we serve and
therefore put ourselves
above them. We are no
better or worse than anyone else. What if we took
the time to learn about
our neighbors? What if
we were careful to be
sure our actions spoke of
Loving our Neighbor? We
are the only smiling face
someone might see, it
may appear that someone
is greedy because they
eat so much--did we ever
stop to think that the
soup we feed them may
be the only food theyll
see for a few days? Its
not really our business to
pass judgement on them
for the situation they find
themselves in, or the circumstances that led them
to be there. Many of us
are just one paycheck
away from homelessness
and hunger ourselves.
We are no better.
I dont say these things to
chastise or pass judgement. These are things I
catch myself in all the
time, and I know I am not
alone. I find it necessary
to regroup sometimes
and reign my thoughts
and feelings in. To refocus. Who am I really serving? Who do I really belong to? What are my mo-

tives? Are they pure, or

do I have a hidden agenda? Am I grateful that I
was chosen by God to
serve? Am I grateful for
all his many blessings?
When I take the time to
do this, I am rejuvenated
and restored and ready to
move forward again.
When the focus is all on
me, I dont feel that way
at all.
God is good All the time.
Its not for us to decide
what Hes up to or why,
but just to show up. Pray
for this ministry. Be grateful weve been chosen to
serve. Bake the cookies
and the bread. Chop the
vegetables. Stir the soup
pot. Slice the bread. Fill
the cookie plates. And, as
people come in, tap into
your grateful heart, smile
and be welcoming. Speak
encouragement and life.
Serve them all food they
can eat, and send them
off with a care package
when they leave. Be glad
you were here to minister
in this way. If the Holy
Spirit has more for you to
do, Im sure youll find
out!
None of us is deserving of
the sacrifice Jesus made
for us. But we can be
grateful and humbled and
serve him joyfully. He rescued us from the pit, and I
believe He is using us as
only He can to do so for
others!
Thank you to all for your
service and support!
God bless you.
