KOLKATA: On his return as the

East Bengal coach, Trevor
Morgan said it was time the
club moved on from its older
generation of players to
younger footballers.
In his pre-season media interaction on the club campus
here on Friday, Morgan, who
earlier coached the club from
2010 to 2013 and worked with
Dempo last year, spoke about
East Bengals forward looking
approach. We have young
players coming in now and we
have to concentrate on them.
A time comes for people to
leave and unfortunately we
had to leave some of those
players. The other point was

FC Gianluca Zambrotta on Friday met the clubs youth team
at a training camp here.
The under-18 players, currently training for the Gothia
Cup in Sweden later this
month spoke to Zambrotta
and shared their experiences
during the two-hour session.

Bangladesh 95-35 to emerge
the champion in the South
Asian Basketball Association
(SABA) qualifying tournament here on Friday. The host
unbeaten in all three fixtures has now booked a spot
in the FIBA Asia Challenge to
be held at Tehran (Iran) in
September.
Indias dominance was established early, when forward
Vishesh Bhriguvanshi finished
a fast-break with a one-handed
jam. A few minutes later, centre Amritpal Singh got the
crowd going when he efected
a steal and ran the length of the
court.
After getting past the Bangladesh defenders, the Punjab
player did a slam dunk.
Tamil Nadu hoopster Arvind Annadurai, too, shared
the limelight, leaping high to
convert an alley-oop from
Bhriguvanshi. With victory
guaranteed, the Indians decided to entertain the crowd at
the Sree Kanteerava Indoor
Stadium with a dazzling
display.
Coach P.J. Sebastien expressed confidence that the

side can do better than the
quarterfinal finish at the Asian
championship last year.
Our bench-strength is far
better this year. We have
many terrific players for each
position. Also, we will try to
use the height advantage we

have through players like Amritpal Singh, Rikin Pethani and

Arvind Annadurai. We will
face tough teams like China
and Iran, but we can hold our
own, he said.
The results:
India 95 (Vishesh Bhriguvanshi 16,

Arvind Annadurai 15, Amritpal Singh

Nepal 62 (S. Ashim 15, S. Ayush 15,
Sadish Pradhan 14) bt Maldives 54
(Abdul Latheef 10, Mohammed Zilaal

Final standings: 1. India, 2. Maldives, 3. Nepal, and 4. Bangladesh.

EB looks at younger players this season

SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

financial, said Morgan.

We had a senior squad
when I was here in 2010. The
squad this year for the Calcutta Football League (CFL) is
full of younger players. It is a
good opportunity for them to
stake their claim for the ILeague when that comes
around.
Morgan, who would manage East Bengal to its first
competition of the season in
the CFL, said he would be free
to take up any Indian Super
League (ISL) assignment.
When the Calcutta League is
over then I am not going to be
here because that is an open
period. If an opportunity in
the ISL comes up, then the
club has allowed me to do

that, to work in the ISL and

then comeback for the ILeague, said Morgan, who
worked with Kerala Blasters
for a season.
Asked about East Bengals
prospects of winning a record
seventh consecutive CFL title, Morgan said, We have
won six in a row and thats a
record. Even without it we
still are the record-holders.
East Bengals second foreign recruit of the season, defender Calum Angus, was excited to join the club with a
bigger fan base. I have played
in India for the last three
years. So I know the magnitude of the club. It was a great
opportunity and I took it with
both hands, he said.
