INTRODUCTION

Textile fabrics can be classified broadly in two sections as weaving and knitting.
Weaving is intersecting two sets of straight threads to each other whereas Knitting
is interlooping consists forming yarns into loops. Fabrics made by weaving method
can be used to make formal wear, technical textiles, protective cloths etc. On the
other hand, Knitted fabrics are softer in feel and can be used for inner wear and
leisure wear.
Tirupur known as heartland of knitwear in India. Tirupur, the knitwear hub
contributing 60% of entire production of knitted goods in India. Shipments of
knitwear from this region accounted for 20000 crores for the financial year 2014-15
and has target to reach 36000 for the FY 2016-17 as Tirupur Exporters Association.
As far as the raw material is concerned, hosiery yarn occupies major portion in
knitted garment and can be sourced from spinners in and around Tamil Nadu and in
some northan region also. First step of making a knit garment is to convert yarn into
fabric. For this process, domestic and export garment manufacturers are wholly
depend on local knitting factories whether they can be a part of vertical set up with
40 to 50 machines which are very few or contract job workers who owned 10 to 20
knitting machines as majority. Since transport become major hurdle consumes more
cost, all these conversion units are located in and around 50 kms from Tirupur. It is
estimated that there are 4000 circular knitting machines available in this region in
order to make to conversion process much easier.

OVERVIEW
Lubricant oil for circular knitting machine called Knitting oil or Needle oil is life blood
of a knitting machine. Major consumables of knitting machines are knitting oil and
needles which earlier one decides life of machine parts and next one is important to
make quality fabric. A perfect quality knitting lubricant oil makes machine run
smooth, extends life span of parts and elements, reduces operating temperature
and should be easily removed from fabric leaving no stain. Hence knitting oil has to
be optimized to increase machine performance and should be self emulsifiable to
remove stains.

SELECTION AND APPLICATION

In order to maintain uniform lubrication to knitting parts such as needles, sinkers
and cams, there are central lubricating devices fitted on the machine are called mist
lubrication devices. Major brands are Uniwave, a device flows oil to machine parts
with air pressure and Pulsonic is an another popular brand which takes oil into
machine with electrical power. Also some other local brands available in handsome
price but does not give uniform application. Eventhough the oil quality is good
purpose will not be solved when lubrication is not sufficient.
