General notes
1.7 Overview safety notes
The general safety instructions point out potential hazards during repairs.
To prevent constant repetitions, the following safety instructions are not
mentioned explicitly in the individual sections; instead, the sections contain only references to the general safety instructions.
Prior to repairs, read the safety instructions carefully.
For any repair works at the device the particular ambient conditions, listed
as location requirements, apply (see operating instructions).

Contamination hazard!
The incubator can be used for the permanent or temporary
storage of toxic or infectious substances or materials. Therefore, the device or device components may be contaminated.
Always observe the hygiene regulations of the operator!
Infectious or toxic substances or residues thereof must
always be removed completely from the work space.
Prior to repairs, make sure that the device has been cleaned
and disinfected to exclude infection hazards.
The operator must provide a declaration of non-objection.
Electric shock!
Contact with current-carrying components may cause a lethal
electric shock.
Prior to repairs, disconnect the device from the power supply
system:
Isolate the device electrically.
Protect the device from accidental reconnection.
Make sure the device is de-energized.
Ground and short the device.
Isolate adjacent components or components to repair that
are under voltage.
Dangerous gases!
Released oxygen (O2) promotes combustion and may explode
in combination with oils, greases, and lubricants.
Large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen (N2)
released into the room atmosphere may cause suffocation.
Prior to repairs disconnect gas supply:
Close the CO2/O2/N2 supply system shut-off valves.
Disconnect the gas pressure hoses from the sleeve at the
rear of the device.

General notes

Handling electrical components!

The electrical components must be handled only in compliance
with the guidelines of IEC-61340 Electrostatic, Handling ESD
(electrostatic discharge). Observe ESD safety measures during:
packing and storage,
unpacking,
installation.

Start-up:
If safety appliances were removed or disabled during repairs,
the device must not be started up before the safety appliances
have been reinstalled and checked for proper operation!
Before the incubator is started up and operated, a test run must
be performed.
Recycling:
All components of the device can be recycled.
If toxic or infectious substances were used in the device, the
components must be decontaminated as required before they
are discarded or shipped. For shipped components, a certificate
of decontamination must be attached.

Installing the covers

2.1 Installing / Removing the control box

cover
The electrical components of the control box [2] are
located underneath the cover [3].
The cover [3] is attached with two hooks [4] to the
guide slots [5] at the rear panel of the device and
secured with 7 retaining screws [1].
Removing the control box cover:
1. Disconnect the device from the power supply.
2. Remove the 7 retaining screws [1].
3. Disengage the hooks of the cover [3] from the
guide slots at the rear panel of the device.
Installing the control box cover:
1. Install the cover to the guide slots at the rear
panel of the device.
2. Engage the two hooks [4] of the cover [3] into the
guide slots [5].
3. Secure the cover using the 7 retaining screws [1].

Installing the water level sensor

3.1 Installing / Removing the water level

sensor
The water level sensor [1] is installed to the work
space floor. For water level sensor maintenance work,
the device floor is equipped with a mounting opening
sealed by a cover [6].
Removing the water level sensor:
1. Remove the entire shelf system.
2. Pump the water off and remove water residues.
3. Have protective bases ready (e.g. square timbers
with soft carton). Place one side of the device
onto the bases [3].
4. Remove the control box cover.
5. At the main board [2], disconnect the water level
sensor wiring:
at devices of series 150 i / 240 i pull off plug
from X20/X21,
at all other devices disconnect cables from
terminal JP1.
6. Remove the 6 retaining screws of the control box
and flap up the control box [4] carefully from the
rear panel. This allows access to the mounting
opening [5].
7. Remove the cover at the mounting opening [6]:
at all devices of series 150 i / 240 i remove the
retaining screws of the cover at the mounting
opening and remove the cover,
at all other devices pull out the protective
sheet.
8. To access the water level sensor, use a sharp
blade [7] to cut a hole along the perforation into
the insulation material [8] behind the mounting
opening.

Damage to the device heating!

The floor unit behind the insulation
contains components of the device heating.
Do not cut deeply into the insulation,
max. blade length 15 mm.
Cut the insulation carefully and remove
it using a screwdriver.
Use insulation as spacer between
control box and rear panel!

Installing the water level sensor

9. Cut the the water level sensor wiring. Remove the

locknut and remove the water level sensor from
the opening in the work space. The opposite end
of the sensor wiring pull out of the control box.
Installing the water level sensor:

Cable connector:
The water level sensor supply cable is
equipped with a connector
that fits only for devices of series 150 i /
240 i.
For all other device types, the supply cable
connector of the new water level sensor
wiring must be cut off. The ends of the
wiring must be connected to terminal JP1
of the main board!
1. Clean the sealing surfaces around the work space
floor opening.
2. Slide the sealing ring [6] onto the thread of the
water level sensor [1] and install the water level
sensor into the opening of the work space floor
[9].
3. From the bottom, slide the washer [7] onto the
water level sensor thread.
4. Install and tighten the locknut [8]:
Torque: 5 Nm.
5. Route the supply cables [2] to the main board [4]:
from the mounting opening in the device floor
through the cable duct to the mounting
opening [3] at the rear panel of the device,
through the control box feed through hole [5]
to the main board [4].
6. Connect the supply cables to the main board:
at all devices of series 150 i / 240 i insert the
connector to plug X20/X21,
at all other devices cut off the connector, strip
the insulation and connect the cables to
terminal JP1 as follows:
red (+5V) = 4
orange (signal) = 2
brown (0V) = 1
Pin 3 remains unassigned.
7. Cut off a piece of the insulation material at the
right lower edge using this as cable duct. Then
insert the insulation material back into the

mounting opening and secure it using tape strips.

8. Secure the cover to the mounting opening in the
work space floor:
at devices of series 150 i / 240 i secure it using
the screws,
at all other devices secure the protective sheet
using tape.
9. Secure the control box to the rear panel of the
device using the screws.
10. Install the device and perform a test run:

Functional test at all devices of series 150 i

/ 240 i only:
Checking the water level sensor for correct
function:
Do not fill in water, switch the device on
and wait for the water level error
message.
Acknowldege the error message.
Fill the work space floor with a sufficient
amount of water and chek to see if the
water level sensor detects the water
level and does not issue further error
messages.
