UNIT PLAN- GRADE 2 October

12 Lessons
Generative Topic: In the grade two music classroom, there is so much that needs to be repeated class
after class for them to ensure they understand. Yet, students need to have excitement and enjoyment
of music class driving them to succeed. Because October is full of holidays, I will be using both
Thanksgiving and Halloween throughout my October unit to ensure the students stay excited about
what they are learning. Students will spend the month of October looking heavily at rhythmic patterns,
dynamics, phrases, and time signatures
Unit Title: Autumn; Thanksgiving and Halloween
Big Idea: By the end of this unit, students will understand simple rhythmic patterns in association with
time signatures
Essential Questions:

1. How are phrases in music similar? How are they different?

2. What is tempo?
3. How do rhythm patterns changed based on time signature
Concepts Taught:

Rhythmic patters are devisions of beat

A piece of music is broke into sections (AB, ABA, etc.)
Music has dynamic changes
Students will be able to determine when the melody a
piece of music rises or falls
Determine and respond to musical phrases
