Greenhouse effect is a phenomenon in which the atmosphere of a planet traps radiation emitted by

its the sun by way of a blanket generated by, caused by g concentrations of gases such as carbon
dioxide, water vapor, and methane that allow incoming sunlight to pass through but retain heat
radiated back from the planet's surface. Since the last century, researchers have established
multiple lines of scientific evidence that the earth temperature is rising. Global warming can be
further proved by the melting of polar ice caps, rising sea level and changing weather patterns which
can cause extreme weather events like heat waves, droughts, heavy rainfall and flood. In order to
make a deeper analysis of greenhouse, I would go through the its effects and causes of greenhouse
and present some knowledgeable workable solutions to help limit the potential effects of
greenhouse.

There are three major causes of greenhouse, and the first of whichone important cause is
industrialization. Industries which are involved in cement production, fertilizers, coal mining activities,
oil extraction produce harmful greenhouse gases. Also, landfills filled with garbage produce carbon
dioxide and methane gas contributing significantly to greenhouse effect. But fossil fuels like coal, oil
and natural gas have become an integral part of our life. They are used on large basis to produce
electricity and for transportation. When they are burnt, the carbon stored inside them is released
which combines with oxygen in the air to create carbon dioxide. With the increase in the population,
the number of vehicles have has also increased and this has resulted in increase in the pollution in
the atmosphere. When these vehicles run, they release carbon dioxide, which is one the main gas
responsible for increase in greenhouse effect. Apart from that, electricity-related emissions are high
because we are still dependent on coal for electricity generation which releases large amount of
CO2 into the atmosphere and is still the primary source of fuel for generating electricity. Although,
renewable sources are catching up, but it may take a while before we can reduce our dependeance
on coal for electricity generation.

Another crucial cause is deforestation. Trees play a huge role in the carbon cycle. They convert the
CO2 in the air to oxygen, through the process of photosynthesis, and in this way, they can be looked
at as a natural regulator of the carbon dioxide. The more trees the earth has, the less carbon dioxide
will be released to in the atmosphere and the more oxygen will be generated. Since we live in an
age where carbon dioxide is very overabundant in the atmosphere, released through man-made
inventions, such as cars, factories, and power plants, it is vital, more than ever, that trees fulfill their
part in the environment and take some of the excess carbon dioxide out of the air. Unfortunately,
deforestation is preventing this job to be fully accomplished, and with half of all the Earth's forests
gone, and four million trees cut down each year just for paper use, the amount of carbon dioxide is
rising. With more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, more of the sun's radiation is being reflected
back to earth, instead of space, and this is causing our average temperature to rise. In this way,
deforestation is a major issue when it comes to global warming.

The causes are clear soWith causes crystal-clear, it is worth mentioning the effects of greenhouse.
Firstly, it has an enormous impact on the polar ice caps. According to the Environmental Protection
Agency, the EPA, in over the last 100 years the sea level has risen about 6 to 8 inches. A variety of
things are causing this rise but the thing that is triggering all theise seemsis, to many, like global
warming. Antarctica accounts for 90 percent of the worlds ice, which is where many icebergs come

from. Icebergs are formed when ice breaks off from these glaciers. It is one theory that rising
temperatures cause more ice to break off from these glaciers and fall into the ocean displacing
water, which could cause sea levels to rise. But even this could not account for all the change in
Earths sea level. Antarctica is covered in ice about 2,133 meters of ice. If theise all were all to
suddenly rise, the ocean could rise about 200 feet. But that could never happen in the near future,
because the temperature of Antarctica is about -37 degrees Celsius. Another organization, the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, estimated in their report that the oceans could rise 90
centimeters by the year 2100, . Wwhich could have a profound effect on cities on the oceans,
especially during storms. But there are also people and places affected by the melting. For instance,
in Bangladesh, over one million people have been displaced do due to the rising sea and the rising
rivers: the Ganges and the Bramaputra. It is expected that if no action is taken, that thirteen million
more people will lose their homes in the near future. There is also a vital rice crop there, which would
be lost. This would only take one meter of rising to do all this damage. There are also many island
nations; like Tuvalu, that is no more than fifteen feet above sea level in any place, but most of it isnt
even a meter high. Much of the island is already extensively flooded.

As the ice melts, the sea level will rise and that is surely would have some devastating effects.
Temperature measurements of the sea surface and the deep ocean indicate that the ocean
temperatures are warming. Rising ocean temperature causes rising sea level from thermal
expansion of the water. Rising temperature also means melting glaciers and rising sea level through
addition of melt water to the oceans. Sea level rose about 1 foot during the last century, mostly from
thermal expansion of the oceans. Sea level is expected to rise closer to 3 feet during the coming
century. Rising sea level will cause increasing coastal erosion, flooding, and property damage during
coastal storms on top of the potential for major loss of life from storms in low-lying coastal countries
like Bangladesh and island nations in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Warmer sea surface
temperatures will result in more and stronger tropical storms. Coastlines already ravaged by these
storms will expect to see more strong storms than before, increasing the loss of life and damage to
infrastructure.

Last but not least, changing weather patterns can also affect the life on earth. It is difficult to predict
how regional and local weather patterns will change but there will certainly be changes. While higher
temperatures will produce more rainfall across the globe, the regional rainfall patterns will likely
change. Some areas will get more, some areas will get less. The timing of wet and dry periods may
change. But higher temperatures will also mean more evaporation. Higher temperatures may also
mean stronger storms with damaging winds. All of these mean new risks and changing conditions for
agriculture. Centuries old farming practices will have to change. Some areas may go from being
marginal to becoming a breadbasket region, while other regions may go from major agricultural
production to marginal.

The last few paragraphs above show the effects of greenhouse and if we don't act fast, the potential
effects can be much worse. So here are some insightful solutions. Firstly recycling and reusing can
make a huge difference in our everyday lives, making smart choices about what we buy, how we use
it, and how we dispose of it can make a big difference in the amount of waste we produce and the
greenhouse gas emissions associated with our consumption. The manufacture, distribution and use

of the goods and food we rely on in our daily livesas well as management of the resulting waste
all require energy. This energy mostly comes from fossil fuels, which are the largest global source of
heat-trapping greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Another important solution is replacing fossil fuel with renewable energy sources. Renewables are
great for our energy portfolio because they are inexhaustible and wont pollute the planet for us or
those of future generations by emitting toxic chemicals and gases. While some regions and
countries in the past have grown wealthy and benefitted from their proximity to coal, gas, and oil
reserves, not all places have access fossil fuels, which has have made economic development
difficult in some areas. However, nearly every town has access to sunlight, wind, and the geothermal
power from the Earth, so harnessing these sources of renewable energy could be a great
democratizing force, offering affordable and plentiful power to every corner of the globe.

Finally, we can preserve and plant our own artificial forests. The importance is immense in today's
scenario because it is mainly done for commercial purposes. In a natural forest or woodland, the
trees are heterogeneous. Owing to the sensitivity to over usage and slow growths, these forests
cannot be used continuously for commercial purposes like wood products. The process of planting
trees in empty lands helps promote the fast propagation of specific types of trees for the wood
industry. With the increasing demand for wood fuels and building materials, this process helps to
meet these demands without cutting down the natural forests. Deforestation can lead to the
depletion of trees in water catchments and riverside zones. Afforestation ensures trees and plants
that hold the soil in these sensitive areas remain protected.

In conclusion, greenhouse effect is the failure to radiate the heat back to the atmosphere. It has
devastating effect and numerous causes. 3 solutions was were presented including reusing,
recycling; replacing fossil fuel with renewable energy and afforestation. I think that greenhouse is
totally controllable with the right solutions.
