Oil Purifier

Symbol Description
AV1
Directional Valve
A specific level of oil is required when operating the Purifier. When the oil level drops to
the lower switch setting, the AV1 solenoid is energized. This permits the P2 pump
volume to re-circulate back into the vessel. The oil level will rise until the higher switch
is contacted. At that time the solenoid de-energizes allowing the valve to shift back to the
closed position. The P2 pump will then direct oil flow back into the central lubrication
tank.
CV1
Check Valve
This check valve is located in the outlet line of the P1 pump. The purpose of the check
valve is to prevent oil flow from the central lubrication tank into the purifier vessel when
the system is turned off.
CV2
Check Valve
This check valve has a spring rating of 5 PSI. The check valve will block oil flow from
the lubrication tank back into the purifier vessel when the system is turned off.
DP1
Pressure Switch
This switch senses the pressure on both sides of the FL2 filter. The setting of the switch
is 34.8 PSI. When the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the switch
reaches the spring setting of the switch and Outlet Filter Block light will illuminate and
the purifier will be shut down.
FL1
Strainer
The strainer is located in the manifold and can be accessed by removing the inlet port
fitting. The strainer will remove particles of contamination from the oil prior to being
directed to the P1 pump. If this strainer becomes blocked then pressure at the P1 pump
suction will rise. If the pressure rises to 2.9 PSI, the system will be shut down. The
strainer can then be removed from the manifold and cleaned or replaced.
FL2
Filter
The filter removes the particles of contamination that are delivered by the P2 pump
before porting the oil back into the central lubrication tank. If the element becomes
contaminated and the pressure drop across the filter reaches the DP1 switch setting (34.8
PSI) the unit will be shut down. An Outlet Filter Block light will also illuminate
indicating the condition. The filter is located within the manifold block.
FL3
Filter
The filter will remove particles of contamination from the air before entering the purifier
vessel. If this filter becomes contaminated then a high vacuum pressure can exist causing
the unit to shut down when a 6.62 PSI vacuum pressure is reached.
FL4
Oil Mist Separator

The purpose of this separator is to filter the oil mist before the air flows into the P3 pump
suction. The separator is located underneath the plate on top of the vessel just below the
air outlet connection.
FT1
Oil Mist Separator
This separator will remove any oil mist not removed by the FL4 element. There is a sight
glass on the side of the bowl, which can be viewed to monitor the fluid level. The level
should not rise above the green area in the sight glass. A drain fitting is provided when
necessary to remove oil from the separator.

Float Switches
Although only three switches are shown, four switches are used on the purifier. When the
level drops to the first low level, the AV1 valve solenoid energizes permitting the P2
pump volume to re-circulate oil back into the purifier vessel. If the fluid level continues
to drop and the lowest level is reached, the unit will be shut down. When operating
normally and the AV1 solenoid is energized, the level will rise until the first high level
switch is reached. The AV1 solenoid then de-energizes blocking the P2 pump flow back
into the vessel. If the level continues to rise and the highest switch setting is reached,
then the purifier will be shutdown.
MV1
Manual Valve
This valve is open during the normal operation of the purifier. The valve is located on the
main manifold block. The valve can be closed when necessary to block oil flow from the
lubrication unit to the P1 inlet port.
MV2
Manual Valve
This valve can be used to control the P2 pump flow rate back into the purifier when the
AV1 valve solenoid is energized.
MV3
Manual Valve
This valve is used to set the amount of vacuum pressure inside the purifier vessel. The
manufacturer recommends that a 11.6 PSI be read on the PG2 gauge when the purifier is
operating. As the P3 pump pulls a vacuum through this valve, the air volume will
increase approximately 5 times. With the volume of air increasing, the relative humidity
will decrease. This permits the water vapor pressure in the oil to separate out and be
removed by the vacuum pump. If the vacuum pressure drops below 6.5 PSI, the purifier
will be shut down. The recommended minimum vacuum pressure is 10.2 PSI and a
maximum of -13.1 PSI.
P1
Pump
This fixed displacement pump will constantly re-circulate 20 liters per minute (5.3 GPM)
through the purifier vessel. The maximum outlet pressure of the pump is determined by
the RV1 relief valve setting. This valve will open if the pressure reaches an 81.2 PSI
pressure differential between the outlet and inlet lines.

P2
Pump
This fixed displacement pump will remove the oil from the purifier and pump it back into
the central lubrication tank. When the first low level switch is reached, the AV1 valve
solenoid energizes. This permits the P2 pump to re-circulate oil back into the vessel until
the first high level is reached. The maximum pressure at this pump outlet is determined
by the RV2 relief valve spring setting (130.5 PSI). When the pressure difference between
the inlet and outlet of the pump reaches this setting, the oil will simply re-circulate
through the valve and back into the pump suction.
P3
Vacuum Pump
This pump will pull air in through the FL3 filter and the MV3 manual valve. The amount
of vacuum is determined by the setting of the MV3 valve. The manufacturer has preset
this valve so that a 11.6 PSI vacuum pressure will exist inside the vessel. This pressure
may be adjusted between 10.2 PSI and 13.1 PSI. If 13.1 PSI is exceeded, then
problems can occur within the purifier system. If the vacuum pressure is too high, then
condensation can occur inside the vacuum pump. This will shorten the life of the pump
as well as cause a loss of air flow. This will usually result in a high level shut down of
the unit.
Another problem that can occur is that too much air is taken out of the oil causing
aeration. This will reduce the bearing life of the P2 pump.
PG1
Pressure Gauge
This gauge will indicate the pressure at the suction of the P1 pump. This pressure should
be below the setting of the PS2 pressure switch 2.9 PSI.
PG2
Pressure Gauge
This gauge will indicate the vacuum pressure inside the vessel. This gauge should read
between 10.2 PSI and 13.1 PSI. If the vacuum pressure drops to the PS1 switch setting
- 6.5 PSI, the purifier will be shut down.
PG3
Pressure Gauge
This gauge will indicate the pressure at the P2 pump outlet. The maximum pressure this
gauge should ever read is the RV2 spring setting, 130.5 PSI.
PS1
Pressure Switch
This pressure switch monitors the vacuum pressure inside the purifier vessel. The
purifier is designed to operate at a 10.2 PSI minimum and a 13.1 PSI maximum
vacuum pressure. This switch will indicate when the pressure drops below 6.5 PSI.
This means that not enough water will be removed from the oil. If the pressure drops to
6.5 PSI, then a warning lamp will illuminate on the control panel and the purifier will be
shut down.
PS2
Pressure Switch
This switch is used to electrically indicate when the vacuum pressure at the P1 pump is
too high. The recommended setting of the switch is 2.9 PSI. The unit will be shut down

if the P1 inlet pressure rises to this level. This can be caused by the FL1 strainer plugging
up, the MV1 valve being partially closed, cold oil, a leak in the suction line or fittings.
RV1
Relief Valve
This valve is mounted on the P1 pump. The valve limits the maximum pressure at the
pump outlet. Normally this valve should never open. If the outlet nozzles were to plug
up or in the event that the CV1 check valve were to fail closed, then pressure would build
to this relief valve setting. A low fluid level would then occur inside the purifier tank.
The unit would be shut down when the low level switch is reached.
RV2
Relief Valve
This valve limits the maximum pressure at the P2 pump outlet. The spring is set for
130.5 PSI. If the pressure difference between the pump outlet and inlet reaches this
setting, the valve will shift open allowing the oil to re-circulate back to the pump suction.
Eventually a high level condition would exist in the tank causing the unit to be shut
down. This valve would open only because of a restriction downstream.
SL1
Breather
This breather will prevent any oil mist from entering the atmosphere. It will also allow a
small amount of air flow into the vacuum pump inlet line.
TG1
Temperature Gauge
This gauge will indicate the fluid temperature at the inlet of the P1 pump.
