Continues from BLDC 2400 utilizing the most recent release of the software. Emphasis is on application of
software in production of drawings for presentation, development and building permits, and working
drawings.

This course will outline various AutoCAD applications and provide practical exercises throughout the term.
The course will prepare the student to use the current version of the software as a drafting and design tool.
It will also update the student with the latest practices in applying the appropriate tools for the designated
tasks.

Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:


Produce a set of construction documents, which can be submitted to any Local Municipality for a
Development or Building permit.
Plot large format drawings and use layout / paper space to optimize the display of the model.
Use blocks and attributes to expedite the drawing process and enhance the monitoring of
information within the drawing database.
Use various drawing techniques to enhance an architectural design drawing.
Construct an isometric drawing and construction detail.

Students must complete and hand in all assignments, the term project, and
write the mid-term and final exam to receive a pass grade for the course. Late
assignments will have 25% of grade deducted per week.

Information for Students


Assignments: Late assignments will have 25% taken off grade per week of delay. Assignments must be
done on an individual basis unless otherwise specified by the instructor.
Makeup Tests, Exams or Quizzes: There will be no makeup tests, exams or quizzes. If you miss a test,
exam or quiz without prior discussion with instructor, you will receive zero marks. Exceptions may be made
for documented medical reasons or extenuating circumstances. In such a case, it is the responsibility of
the student to inform the instructor immediately.
Illness: A doctors note is required for any illness causing you to miss assignments, quizzes, tests,
projects, or exam. At the discretion of the instructor, you may complete the work missed or have the work
prorated.
Ethics: BCIT assumes that all students attending the Institute will follow a high standard of ethics.
Incidents of cheating or plagiarism may, therefore, result in a grade of zero for the assignment,
quiz, test, exam, or project for all parties involved and/or expulsion from the course.
Attendance: The attendance policy as outlined in the current BCIT Calendar will be enforced. Attendance
will be taken at the beginning of each session. Students not present at that time will be recorded as absent.

Transfer Credit
Equivalent Part-time Studies courses may be transferable to the Architectural and Building Engineering
Technology diploma program based on the recommendations of the diploma instructor and the program
head. In order to be considered for a course credit, students must already be accepted into the diploma
program and are required to demonstrate competency of the subject matter by having earned a minimum

Attendance/Illness:
In case of illness or other unavoidable cause of absence, the student must communicate as soon as
possible with his/her instructor or Program Head or Chief Instructor, indicating the reason for the absence.
Prolonged illness of three or more consecutive days must have a BCIT medical certificate sent to the
department. Excessive absence may result in failure or immediate withdrawal from the course or program.

Attempts:Students must successfully complete a course within a maximum of three (3) attempts at the
course. Students with two attempts in a single course will be allowed to repeat the course only upon
special written permission from the Associate Dean. Students who have not successfully completed a
course within three attempts will not be eligible to graduate from their respective program.
