1. the components used for focusing the femtosecond laser beam were beam
expander and a microscope objective.
2. The beam expander was BE5X. (I think the expansion is 5 times and it also
have rotator to change the magnification)
3. The microscope objective used was 20 X with NA 0.4.
4. Assumption: the working distance of the objective lens is focal length of the
objective (this is only true if it is infinity corrected objective)
5. Let say the BE5X expand the original beam to 5 times.
a. In this case, the beam dimension will be 5 mm approx.
6. This beam will be the input for the microscope objective, by assuming the
objective will behave like normal focusing lens. Following formula can be used
to calculate the focused size:
7.
8. Where
a. f= working distance of the objective = 10 mm (need to be checked)
b. D= 5 mm
c. Wavelength = 1030 nm
9. Therefore, the focused radius is 1.3 micron. This value can be affected by
the M factor.
