INSTRUCTIONS: Read the following text about cultural activities in Queretaro. Answer
the questions properly.
QUERETARO, A CULTURAL JEWEL
In the city of Santiago de Queretaro, especially its downtown area, a large number of
cultural centers open their doors to get visitors closer to history, legends and the regions
cultural expressions. The Capuchinas Convent, a building of great beauty that dates back to the
18th century, is home to the Restoration Museum, displaying documents, photographs, books
and objects providing an insight into Queretaros history. Next to it, also a former convent,
visitors will find the City Museum, where the emperor Maximilian spent his last days. This
building houses a childrens library, a film club and offers classes, workshops, exhibitions and
artistic events (theater, concerts and festivals).
Those wishing to learn more about the citys history, might visit the interactive museum of
history named The Magic of the Past, where learning takes place in an original and fun way.
Would you like to witness a legend? Visit the Zacatecana Home. Locals say that the owner of this
large house died in 1859 in a tragic way; it is argued, that once in a while, here lost soul peeks
through a window. Its 11 restored living rooms display a rich collection of vice royal paintings
from the 19th century, as well as furniture and everyday items from different eras. Those who
love culture cannot miss the Art Museum, housed at the former Saint Augustine Cloister. This
cultural site is used for concerts, conferences, book presentations, theater plays, special events
and educational programs. And more art for those who just cannot have enough: The National
Graphic Arts Museum (MUNAG, for its Spanish acronym), which is housed in an old big house
once used by conspirators to meet and plan the independence of New Spain, as Mexico was once
known, exhibits about 2,000 pieces of graphic arts with a great historical value. It also houses
the first printing press brought to the Americas. Reference
