ABSTRACT
The research about the effect of the addition of lauric acid as interfacial in PVC
composite with filler powder king banana peel has been examined. The weight
variation from PVC: powder banana peel: lauric acid is (7: 3: 0) g, (7: 3: 0.2) g, (7: 3:
0.4) g, (7: 3: 0.6) g, (7: 3: 0.8) g and (7: 3: 1) g. As the analysis performed include on
the mechanical test (tensile strength and elongation) in accordance with ASTM D638,
Test of thermal properties use TGA and DSC and test of functional groups use FTIR
spectrophotometer without and using lauric acid. From the results of the analysis
showed that the highest tensile strength obtained at ratio (7: 3: 0.4) g of 14.12 MPa
and elongation break is 42,60%. In the testing of the thermal properties, composite
PVC without lauric acid, TGA has decomposed at temperature of 265-3320C
amounted to 80.44%. While the composite PVC with additve of lauric acid has
decomposed at a temperature of 257-3230C amounted to 83.19%. In this case was
found that the thermal properties that use lauric acid more rapidly decomposed than
those not using a lauric acid.
