Special Instruction
Reinforcement of the C-Frame{6063}
Media Number -SEHS8953-02
i02094597
Introduction
This Special Instruction provides the necessary information for reinforcing the C-Frame on the
following Track-Type Tractors: D6H, D7H, D6R and D7R. The reinforcement of the C-Frame is
particularly applicable to extremely heavy-duty applications (land clearing and logging machines).
The procedures that are provided are for one side of the machine, but these procedures are applicable
to both sides of the machine. In order to receive the best results, remove the C-frame when you add
this reinforcement.
Note: Fabricate all the reinforcement plates from high strength structural steel. The high strength
structural steel should have a yield strength of 289.4 MPa (42000 psi) and a thickness of 12 mm (.5
inch).
Note: Perform shielded metal arc welding with electrodes that are specified by the American
Welding Society (AWS). Use electrodes from the AWS class E6013, E6012, E7014, or E7024.
Do not attempt to assemble this machine until you read and you
understand the assembly instructions.

Personal injury or death can result from fumes, gases and ultraviolet
rays from the weld arc.
Welding can cause fumes, burn skin and produce ultraviolet rays.
Keep your head out of the fumes. Use ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or
both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing area. Wear eye, ear
and body protection before working.
Protect yourself and others; read and understand this warning. Fumes
and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolent rays from the
weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Electric shock can cause death.
Read and understand the manufacturer's instructions and your
employer's safety practices. Do not touch live electrical parts.
See "American National Standard Z49.1, Safety in Welding and
Cutting" published by the American Welding Society.
