INTRODUCTION
Handling of the three Manuli Hose
Reels on Archon Tide AHT has
necessitated the provision of two
gantry type handling structures,
which straddle the UTS reeler and
which will be used to lower the reels
as they empty, and haul the full
reels up to the reeler drive axis.
The frames comprise a simple
overhead beam structure; braced at
each corner and supported by two
outrigger A frame legs. The frame
is split for ease of road
transportation, by incorporating
bolted flanges at the A-frame tops.
The simple structure has been sized
in FS2000 Frame Solver with design
load taken as 2X that of the required
lift load. As the flooded reels weigh
~15Te: the load of 7.5Te per frame is
simply doubled to 15Te for proof
load which is taken as the design
load too.
Proof load for loose gear, spreader
frames and lifting frame from Lloyds
C.L.A.M.E gives proof load equal to
2X SWL.

Loading at each frame is ~7.5Te and

this is factored against Lloyds

proof loads for lifting frames as 2 X
SWL i.e. 2 x 7.5Te = 15Te (150kN).

INTRODUCTION
Handling of the three Manuli Hose Reels onto Archon Tide AHT will be by

Output

The simple structure has been sized in FS2000 Frame Solver with the design
load taken as proof load. While the un-flooded reels weigh ~10Te: the
spreader and rigging has been designed for 20Te SWL with future use in mind.
Lloyds
CLAME
Table 9.1.1

Proof load for loose gear, spreader frames and lifting frame from Lloyds
C.L.A.M.E gives proof load (for loads in the range 10Te 160Te) as 1.04SWL +
9.6Te. Proof load (design load) is therefore 20 x 1.04 +9.6 = 30.4Te.
30.4Te = 30400kg X 9.80665N = 298.12kN i.e. 149kN suspended from either
end of the spreader bar.
