HOOKED ON RESULTS
Hooked on results - It is in doing
things and not reading about them
that results come about.
Stephen Richards

A word from Sven:

Before I talk about results our September value allow
me just a quick update on the Great Place To Work
initiative. Some of you have already been involved with the
survey either electronically or via paper and I thank all of
you that have participated so far and filled in the survey to
the best of your ability.

This new Employee Trust Survey, part of the Great Place to

Work assessment, is running through September until 5
October 2016.
The paper survey was rolled out to the representative
sample of 1550 employees without email addresses and
during the week of 5th September, the GPTW team paid
Hangana a visit for the survey completion. 60% of the 900
employees with email addresses have already completed
the electronic survey - make sure you have your say by
clicking on the confidential link in your recent email from
Great Place to Work. I am sure that the outstanding 40%
will also do their part before the deadline.
Have your say and tell us what is happening so that we
can work towards positive change.

WELCOME TO OUR
O&L FAMILY

VALUE FOCUS
This month we focus on results and I would like to share the
top 4 focus areas of some big international brands which lead
to consistent results and which you will see are also what
we at O&L do and thus there is nothing in our way to remain
hooked on results and to provide them consistently. (based
on an article by Jim Sullivan, CEO of Sullivision, a Wisconsinbased marketing, sales, and leadership consulting company
that counts Walt Disney Company, Starbucks, Target and
McDonalds among its clients.)
FOCUS ON WHATS IMPORTANT (AS OPPOSED TO
WHATS URGENT)
According to Sullivan, a big problem managers face is focusing
on putting out the "urgent" fires rather than on whats
important to the business overall. He suggests leaders plan
only 65% of their day in detail, and use the other 35% to
handle the unexpected things that come up. Extraordinary
results can only be achieved when youre clear about what
matters most.
HAVE SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE GOALS
Lets say you plan to increase gross sales by N$ 10 million in
one year is both overwhelming and vague. Instead leaders
should break the numbers down to show their team how the
goal is achievable.

VALUE FOCUS CONTINUES . . .
COMMUNICATE GOALS TO YOUR ENTIRE TEAM
Everyone on the team has to know the businesss goals.
Leaders should regularly share how the teams
progressing toward its goals, and make team members
feel appreciated.
MAKE QUALITY HIRING A PRIORITY
Businesses go out of business because they spent money
on the wrong things. Hiring, training, and retaining quality
employees are critical to a businesss survival.

Water saving remains priority:
Namibia Dairies serious about water savings
In light of the current water crisis, Namibia Dairies (ND)
pledged its commitment to take hands with the City of
Windhoek and other role players by ensuring effective
measures are in place for the business to save every
possible drop of water.
Even before a water crisis has been declared by the City of
Windhoek, we realized that we were facing tough times in
terms of water availability and that we should implement
some actions to save water in order to ensure job security
and sustainable production output at our plant at Avis, said
the Head: Technical at ND Pieter van Wyk who is stationed
at the ND plant just outside Windhoek.

Employees of Namibia Dairies play a very significant role in contributing

to the successful water saving campaign within the company.

Water update
Here at O&L or focus is still on
conserving water and living
our value: Naturally today for
tomorrow

The Von Bach dam currently

stands at 18.1% and it is
currently the only surface level
water available to the City of
Windhoek. Current run dry date
for the dam from NamWater and
City
of
Windhoek
is
24
December 2016, but this will
depend on temperatures during
the
summer
months
and
whether or not water savings
are maintained as soon as
temperatures start increasing.

At
present
all
operating
companies are still doing what is
expected of them in order to
remain within the quota set by
the City of Windhoek and thus
far all have been successful in
terms of remaining within the
imposed limits.
Well done!

Wellness topic for the month of September: Depression

Everyone occasionally feels blue or sad. But these feelings are usually short-lived
and pass within a couple of days. When you have depression, it interferes with
daily life and causes pain for both you and those who care about you.
Depression is a common but serious illness. Many people with a depressive illness
never seek treatment. But the majority, even those with the most severe
depression, can get better with treatment. Medications, psychotherapies, and
other methods can effectively treat people with Depression.
Signs of depression:

Persistent sad, anxious, or empty feelings

Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
Feeling of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
Irritabilty, restlessness
Loss of interest in activities or hobbies
Fatigue & decreased energy
Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, excessive sleeping
Overeating, or appetite loss
Thoughts of suicide
Aches or pains, headaches, cramps or digestive problems

Some facts on suicide and the

prevention thereof
Namibia has one of the highest suicide rates in the
world. During 2013, a total of 473 people committed
suicide. Of the people who took their own lives in
2014, 84% were male, while 16% were female.
The highest percentage - 14% - was recorded in the
Ohangwena Region, 2nd in line are Omusati and
Khomas regions with 13%. The youngest suicide
case was of a 12-year-old, with the oldest person
aged 88.

Wellness Quiz
The Wellness Coordinator for the Northern Regions,
Alsina Ndeevelo ran a Wellness Quiz amongst the
managers based in the northern regions. Out of 20
line managers and area managers that she invited
to participate, only 6 participated. The Quiz asked
questions about the Group Wellness Department
and employee wellness in general. The winner of
the Quiz was Michael Henn, Sales Manager at
NBL Oshakati, scoring the highest in the
competition and winning a N$2,000 Pick n Pay
Voucher.
Alsina commented that Michael participates in most
of the wellness interventions, and she believes
participating
in
the
wellness
interventions
advantaged him to understand and answer most
questions.
Congratulations Michael, we hope you enjoy your
prize! We would also like to thank everyone for
participating in the competition.
Prostate Cancer campaign
Prostate Cancer is the most common male cancer in Namibia. 1 in
8 men will develop this cancer during their lifetime. Most men are
diagnosed after the age of 50 years but it can develop a lot earlier
especially in men with a family history of prostate cancer along the
male line.
Early diagnosis is crucial!!!
At this point this Cancer can be cured most of the time.
The Group Wellness Department will commence with a Prostate
Cancer Campaign on Monday, 19 September 2016. This Campaign
makes provision for the Groups male employees to test for
Prostate Cancer. The test is voluntary and free of charge.
