Ordinal Numbers
Os nmeros ordinais, como o prprio nome diz, servem para mostrar uma ordem, uma posio,
uma classificao ou uma sequncia. Na tabela abaixo podemos observar os nmeros e seus
respectivos nomes em ingls:

Exemplos de frases com numerais ordinais:

Im the second. (Eu sou o segundo.)
The first two movies were the best to watch. (Os primeiros dois filmes foram os melhores para
assistir.)
Im the twenty-ninth. (Eu sou a vigsima nona.)
The 16th is the date for the test. (O dcimo sexto dia o dia do teste.)
Notamos na tabela que, de forma geral, os nmeros ordinais terminam em th. Vamos observar:
4th - fourth
15th - fifteenth
38th - thirty-eighth
97th -ninety-seventh
Por excees, temos:
1st first
2nd second
3rd- third
Quando o nmero extenso, o nmero ordinal considerado o ltimo, por exemplo:

152nd one hundred and fifty-second

6, 6153rd six thousand, six hundred and fifty-third
Quando o nmero escrito, como em datas, por exemplo, so colocadas as duas ltimas letras
do nmero ordinal:
First 1st
Twenty-fourth 24th
One hundredth 100th
One millionth 1,ooo,oooth
Em ttulos escritos em numeral romano, como em nomes de reis e rainhas, utiliza-se, em ingls,
o artigo definido the antes do nmero ordinal. Observe:
Edward VI Edward the Sixth
Charles II Charles the Second
Juan IV Juan the Fourth
