Behavior Change Part II

Context: The situation in which the behavior is occurring is in school
during Calendar (sing-along time) the student Alfonzo is continually rocking
back and forth instead of participating in the sing-along. The grades in the
classroom range from second to fifth. All of the students in the classroom
have some type of disability. The reason we are trying to eliminate some of
Alfonzos rocking is because it is affecting other students in the classroom
who observe him rocking and want to copy him. The time of day is usually
about 1 p.m. after movie time. The only expectation of the students at this
time is that everyone tries to participate. As mentioned previously the goal
is to get Alfonzo to stop rocking back and forth, and instead have him
participate in the singing.
Baseline data and Explanation: I am only in the classroom on Monday,
Wednesday and Friday, so I will collect data at that time during Calendar
(sing-along activity) which occurs about 1 p.m. in the afternoon. I collected
the data by observing Alfonzo and what behavior he displayed and how long
he displayed it.

The reason that I am chosen this particular behavior in Alfonzo is that we all
would like to see Alfonzo participate more in the sing-along activity.

Change Plan:
1) What we have noticed is that Alfonzo tends to rock more if he is
sitting on the bench, so we will try to do is to place him in his own
seat to help reduce his rocking back and forth. This seems to be
working, although he still rocks back and forth it is not having
dramatic and it has been reduced.
2) The rationale behind this is the fact that because he has reduced
space he will not rock as much which seems to be working.
3) It seems to be continuous as calendar period begins we will pull out
the chairs and have the students seat in them.
4) We will not discuss the process with the student because he probably
would not comprehend what we are doing. He will just go with the
flow, and do what we tell him to do.
5) We start calendar time (sing-along) we put some of the students in

their own chairs, and some are still on the bench. We start singing if
we see Alfonzo start to rock we discourage him from doing so, and try
to get him interested in singing. Then we continue to sing, and
encourage others to participate including Alfonzo.
