revealed to us on earth, the
Mystery, which was hidden from
Eternity, and which the Angels
themselves knew not: that God,
uniting Natures without confusion,
became
Man
and
accepted
crucifixion voluntarily for our
Salvation; by virtue of which
Resurrecting mankind whom He
had first created, He Saved our
souls from Death.

Hriste O Theos imon, Doxa Si

St Zenobios & St Zenobia of Cilicia

St Zenobios, Bishop of Aegea, and his pious sister, St Zenobia, were
Perfected by Holy Martyrdom in 285 in Cilicia.
Since birth, they had been raised in the Holy Christian Faith by their
devout parents, and they all lived a pious and chaste Life in Christ.
In their mature years, St Zenobios and St Zenobia renouncd the world by
distributing their inherited wealth and possessions among the poor and
destitute.
For his beneficence and Holy Life, our Lord rewarded St Zenobios with the
Gift of Healing various maladies.
Having been elected Bishop of the Christian Community in Cilicia, St
Zenobios zealously spread our True Faith among the pagans, until
Emperor Diocletian (284-305) began his terrible persecution of the
Christians.
Bishop Zenobios was the first to be arrested and tried before the
Governor, Licius, who said: I shall only speak briefly with you, for I
propose to grant you your life if you worship our gods, or death, if you
do not.
St Zenobios responded: This present life without Christ is death! It is better
that I prepare to endure the present torment for my Creator, and then
- with Him - Live Eternally, rather than to renounce Him for the sake of
the present life, and then be Tormented Eternally in Hades.
The brutal, unmerciful and uncompassionate Governor immediately
ordered his executioners to crucify and to toriture St Zenobios to death.
St Zenobia, having been forced to watch her beloved brother suffering the
extreme pain of crucifixion and additional humiliating tortures, wanted
to stop them, so she boldly confessed her own unwavering Faith in
Christ our God and Saviour before the Governor, whereupon she was
also seized and subjected to hideous public humiliation and tortures.
By the Divine Grace and Power of our Lord God the sibling Martyrs
remained alive despite being thrown onto a red-hot iron plate, and
then into a boiling kettle.
Finally, St Zenobios and St Zenobia were beheaded and left to rot but St
Hermogenes the Faithful Priest secretly removed their Holy Relics and
with all due reverence buried them in a single grave.
St Zenobius Intercedes with our Lord Jesus Christ on behalf by those
suffering from breast cancer.
May their memories be Eternal, and may St Zenobios and St Zenobia
ceaselessly Intercede with our Saviour for the sake of our immortal soul.
