Question 1
Why is there such a discord between indigenous religions and globalization and
modern development? What have been the responses of the indigenous religious
people, and what possibilities are there for the future?
Your response should be at least 150 words in length.
The relationship between religion and globalization are described to be
complex because the positive and negative impacts of one to the other balances
out. Globalization binds together all the cultural differences but spreads a secular
perspective that is in conflict with religious teachings. Diversity is seen to be a
threat by indigenous religions because it does not promote the preservation of
traditional values and religious beliefs. Globalizations effects to religion results with
restructuring of tradition that agrees with the contemporary period, disintegration of
shared norms, obsession to cyber culture and association of negative occurrence in
the society to religion such as terrorist attacks and spiritual sacrifices (Khaled,
2007). Advocates believe that the effects of globalization on men is associated to
materialism because the way modern society works entirely depends on money
from lavish lifestyles to basic needs.
Indigenous religious people seized the opportunity to spread their religions
teachings through the help of advanced technology that enables communication
and connection of individuals. While reaching out to those with similar beliefs
becomes easier, devout believers have to be cautious and firm with their faith as
technology gives them access to materials that have detrimental impacts on
morality such as false theological ideas and pornography. Dominating religions such
as Christianity and Islam encourage its believers to recognize its positive aspects
instead of entirely neglecting the concept of modernization. These advocates have
paved way for the prosperity of their religion through creating websites or mobile
apps that teach about their traditions and beliefs.
Undoubtedly, globalization will continue to mold our society and indigenous
religions will face more struggles to keep their culture and traditions intact. By then,
religious advocates will become more determined than ever before to unleash their
brilliant ideas that will allow their traditions to be in trend with the modern society.

Question 2
Why is it challenging to become familiar with the traditions and beliefs of indigenous
religions?
Your response should be at least 150 words in length.
Our society is composed of a diverse culture, traditions and religions. Each
person in this world is raised and shaped by the traditions of his environment.
Becoming familiar with different traditions and beliefs of indigenous religions may
result to a conflict with ones personal belief. Moreover, if one familiarizes himself
with different religions, there is a strong possibility that these new culture influence
his perspective and lifestyle. Although some individuals learn how to accept a
different culture, sharing your beliefs or mingling with people who have a whole new
perspective might not share the same opinion about yours. This is why for some
people it is much easier to build walls around your faith than to let people know
more about your religion because of their tendency to be prejudiced. It has been a
norm for people to be biased with their religion to glorify their faith as a form of
protection. Most people take pride in their traditions believing that their religion is
their salvation. It takes a great amount of time, patience and dedication before one
could become subconsciously flexible enough to welcome a new tradition in life.
