Joseph L. Statum
Chief of Police '
Oxford, Ohio 45056
Dear Chief Statum:
On January 11, 1979, I advised you of information regarding one
Boyd Glasscock whose name has come to any attention through a
number of sources and who has shown an unusual, interest in the
Andes ease. As I explained to you on January 5, 7.979 (the daY
the indictment was returned against Robert Young) Glasscock
appeared at the. apartment of Jim Gattermeyer, Apartment 4249,
Candlewood Apartments. I talked with Gattermeyer, Ed Boggs and
Jim Ebbing who are the residents of that apartment. This
apartment is the apartment where Bob Young went to maks the call
to the Police Department on the night Beth Andes was killed.
I interviewed two of the men and received one of the most bizarre
stories I have ever heard regarding this man's affection for
my client. I suggested that you talk with these individuals
relative to obtaining further information regarding his activities.
T further indicated to you that he appeared on the same evening
and the next day at the Young home in Fairborn and. I have included
with this letter a statement from Bob Young regarding this encounter.
It 1$ also my understanding that. Glasscock contacted other persons
in the Candlewood Apartments and made appearances at the Red Ox
and the Village Center where Bob Young used to work.
My information regarding Boyd Glasscock is as follows: He
presently lives at 624 Montrey, Dayton, Ohio. He has one arrest
that I know of for criminal trespassing arising out of his discharge from Belmont High School in Belmont, Ohio.
I have developed other information during the course of my
investigation in this matter which I feel should be of interest
to the police department. Ted McClure, the assistant resident
manager at Candlewood Apartments, advised that Beth Andes had
complained to him on Wednesday, December 27, 1978 that upon her

Page two

return to her apartment, she found the door to be unlocked and

wanted to know if the maintenance man had been in there fixing
her garbage disposal. It is my understanding that Beth had
complained about the operation of the garbage disposal to the
assistant resident manager in the past. McClure advises that
the maintenance man, Steve Greene, had entered that apartment
to fix the garbage disposal and this probably accounted for the
door being ajar. According to Mr. McClure, Steve Greene left
fox as Vegas, Nevada on the morning of December 28 and has not
been seen since.
We have further determined that an individual by the name of
Robert Vilella, who lives in Oxford across from the Red Ox where
Beth worked, had in the past made advances toward Beth. It is
my understanding that on Christmas day he made such advances
toward Beth at a Christmas Party in Canton, Ohio and Beth rejected
these advances. We have been unable to contact Mr. Vilella to
determine his whereabouts on December 28, 1978. I think you are
already aware of the fact that Beth's employer, Robert Caul, had
been with her in her apartment on the:night before the incident
and I expect you have been following up in that regard.
My client maintains his innocence as regards the .death .of Beth
Andes and I furnish the above information in the hope that you
will continue the investigation in this matter.
Very truly yours,
BADEN, JONES, SCHEPER & GREHAN CO., L.P.A.
