SUMMARY

THE TRANSPORTATION PROBLEM OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN

PALU CITY
Nowadays, Palu city has a system of city transportation service which does
not have permanent route, where the passengers conduct movement from original
place to destination much depend on agreement between passengers and drivers.
City transportation is a means which is very needed by captive passengers in
conducting transportation to meet their needs. The goverment of Palu city has
prepared a permanent route but the drivers of public transportation do not agree
with the rules of route. Free route gives full freedom to drivers wherever they
like . The existance of such rules makes the drivers drive their cars accordance
with their experience and the passengers wants as well. By such rules the
passengers certainly do not know exactly where and when they can get on public
transportation. Besides, for the passangers who have got on the public
transportation must be patient to reach the destination later because public
transportation must deliver some other passengers to diffrent destination . By such
this rules passengers must be clever to arrange the destination of their journeys .
For the passengers they transport may not feel to have risk because the driver
must deliver other passanger before they deliver them to diffrent destination. City
transportation is expected to be able to provide good accessibility for their
passengers It is expected that public transportation in Palu city can possess ideal
route and permanent schedule in operation in its route and produces positive effect
for passengers, drivers/operator and the goverment so that we can measure the
level of passengers satisfaction for city transportation against the work of city
transportation in Palu city .In this case the time used by the passengers to get on
and get off the car and the time used for negotiation of destination. That data get
by the result from do the observation .In addition, the use of free route has
significant effect in operation city transportation from the use of time. The
advantages and disadvantages caused by the unstable route can be felt by all
passengers and drivers. The advantages from the passangers is cheap
transportation fee because the passangers pay once every journey; from the
drivers advantages , they can load passanger every where freely and can drive
and decide location they considered to find many passengers at the certain time.
The disadvantages of passangers on the other hand, there is no certain place to
wait, longer time to wait and they must negotiate about destination; from the
drivers side is about the need of fuel greater and much lost time because much
time needed to negotiate. Based on this research, the use of time to get on/off and
negotiate enable the time lost of journey. This permanent route is the road the
passengers like very much because passangers know exactly where and when they
should wait public transportation. They also know exactly where and when they
should get off to reach their destination.
