NAME OF CANDIDATE: ANNISAA BT. RADZUAN
CLASS: 4PA
IC NO: 000119-03-1294
TITLE: THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE AVAILABLE AND
THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT IN ICT
ASSESSOR: PN. NOR AZLINA BT. OTHMAN

1.0 Introduction
Meaning of:
Open Source Software:
-Open-source software (OSS) is computer software with its source code made available
with a license in which the copyright holder provides the rights to study, change, and
distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose.

Hardware:
-In information technology, hardware is the physical aspect of computers,
telecommunications, and other devices. The term arose as a way to distinguish the "box"
and the electronic circuitry and components of a computer from the program you put in it
to make it do things. The program came to be known as the software.

Software:
-Software is a general term for the various kinds of programs used to operate computers
and related devices. (The term hardware describes the physical aspects of computers and
related devices.)

2.0 The Latest Open Source Operating System (OS)

2.1 Meaning of Open Source (OS)
-Open Source Operating System is any operating system that is free to use and
which provides the original code where the source code is available (under a
copyright license) to the public, which enables them to use, modify / enhance the
operating system, and redistribute the modified (or unmodified) form of the
operating system. The advance user can modify the code of the operating system
to make it works better for them in starting the computer or a likely user interface.

2.2 Examples of Open Source (OS)

1) LINUX

-Linux, which has been the third major computer based Operating System after
Windows and Apples iOS, has been coming out with their latest OS, which would
be named after Freya the Norse Goddess of Love and War.
Freya is expected to be an upgrade to last years Luna.

2) Open Solaris

- Open Solaris is an open source operating system based on Solaris created by Sun
Microsystems. OpenSolaris is a descendant of the UNIX System V Release 4
(SVR4) code base developed by Sun and AT&T in the late 1980s. It was based on
Solaris, which was originally released by Sun in 1991. Open Solaris uses a
network-based package management system Image Packaging System (pkg
(5)), which could add, remove, and manage installed software and to update to
newer releases. It includes a set of free applications, including popular desktop
(GNOME 2) and server software.

3.0 The Latest Open Source Application Software

3.1 Meaning of Open Source Application Software

-Open source application software is computer software that has source code that
can be modified or enhanced by anyone. The source code contains the underlying
programming code that determines how the software looks and works.

3.2 Examples of Open Source Application Software

1) Mozilla Firefox

- Mozilla Firefox (or simply Firefox) is a free and open-source web

browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, the Mozilla
Corporation. Firefox is available for Windows, OS X and Linux operating
systems, with its mobile versions available for Android, and Firefox OS;
where all of these versions use the Gecko layout engine to render web pages,
which implements current and anticipated web standards, but an additional
version Firefox for iOS was released in late 2015 that doesn't use Gecko
but is forced to use the WebKit-based layout engine built into iOS.

2) OpenOffice.org

- OpenOffice.org (OOo), commonly known as OpenOffice, is a

discontinued open-source office suite. It was an open-sourced version of the
earlier StarOffice, which Sun Microsystems acquired in 1999, for internal use.
Sun open-sourced the software in July 2000 as a competitor to Microsoft
Office, releasing version 1.0 on 1 May 2002. OpenOffice.org originated
as StarOffice, a proprietary office suite developed by German company
StarDivision from 1985 on. In August 1999, StarDivision was acquired by Sun
Microsystems for US$59.5 million, as it was supposedly cheaper than
licensing Microsoft Office for 42,000 staff.

4.0 The Latest Development in ICT

4.1 Hardware
1) Wireless Mouse

- Compared to the wired mouse, this wireless mouse is more comfortable. This
tends to be the biggest draw for wireless users: There is simply no cord to get
tangled up in when you're using a wireless mouse. This also tends to make
them a bit more travel friendly, with fewer cords making a snarled mess in
your carry-on bag. The best part about it is also the distance. You're only
limited by the specific wireless technology when it comes to distance.
(Bluetooth typically affords at least 30 feet, and 2.4GHz wireless technology
is about the same.) Although some manufacturers have attempted to provide
an extra-long cord to compensate this feature, it's still not quite the same.

2) Wired Mouse

- Not like the previous version, this wired mouse is less uncomfortable as it
connects with the wire. You more likely get the tangled up when youre using

this wireless mouse. Moreover, the one-piece solution is also the main
problem. Nano receivers are all fine and good when they're safely plugged in
your USB port, but you're often out of luck once it goes missing.

5.0 Pervasive Computing

5.1 Meaning of Pervasive Computing
- Pervasive computing (also called ubiquitous computing) is the growing trend
towards embedding microprocessors in everyday objects so they can communicate
information. The words pervasive and ubiquitous mean "existing everywhere."
Pervasive computing devices are completely connected and constantly available.

5.2 Examples of Pervasive Computing

1) Samsung Gear S

- A smart watch is possibly even a more personal and intimate device than a
smart phone, if such a thing is possible. Rather than pocketed, a watch is tied
to your wrist, always just a glance away from the focus of your attention.
Granted, many people appear to walk around with their mobile phone
constantly in their hand, but that is not the way a phone is originally designed
to be used. A wristwatch, on the contrary, is meant to be worn all day long.

2) Asus Eee Pad 101TC

- The Eee Pad 101TC is in some respects a whole different kettle of fish to its
bigger brother. It's not just the 10 inches of glass that follows in the iPad's
footsteps, but also the metal sleeve around the edge now. Either way, this has
become an aesthetically acceptable style and the textured backside also looks

good and adds grip, however in the early sample on show the quality of
manufacture still needs some tweaking around the edges.

6.0 Conclusion
-Based on the assignments above, it is proved that the current development in Information
and Communication Technology have increased in this worldwide. The current
technologies have improved a lot and giving a really big impact to all generations these
days especially to the young generations and also the old generations. This development
brings many positive sides to all people but somehow it also may lead to negative sides.
The future development in Information and Communication Technology also will have a
great impact to the generations one fine day so everyone must be aware of using the
technologies nowadays to not getting involved with any negatives vibes.
