To give you an understanding and background of Gurmukhi as a script and its role in
the context of Sikh Dharma and Kundalini Yoga.
Facts on Gurmukhi
Standardised by the second Sikh Guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji, in the 15th century and
essentially evolved from several prevailing scripts in the region at the time (see
Appendix 1 for ancestry of Gurmukhi).
The script favoured by the subsequent Sikh gurus to write devotional hymns with and
thus the prevalent script used to write copies of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib with.
Numerals
Notice the similarity between the Gurmukhi and European numeral systems!
Theres even a connection between the numeral symbols and the names of the numbers.

Reading Principles
1. Implicit vowel A
Generally when reading Gurmukhi every letter, except for the last in the word, is followed by
an implicit A or a sound.
