Actuality of theme: Demographic indexes are used in public health for health level and social well-being of the
population estimation, and for planning a network and staff of medical institutions.
Educational tasks of the lesson:
1. TO KNOW: the basic demographic processes, methods of their account and the analysis, practical
application in health service institutions activity, regularity of demographic situation formation, peculiarities in
Ukraine.
2. TO BE ABLE: to fill in documents for natural movement registration; to calculate and estimate the basic
demographic indexes.

For independent preparation to the lesson it is necessary to work up recommended literature and material of
lecture.

Theme: Methods of infant mortality study and estimation


Actuality of theme: infant mortality rate is an indicator of medical care quality and accessibility, and is used in
public health for estimation of health quality and social well-being of the population.
Educational tasks of the lesson:
1. TO KNOW: main indexes of infant mortality, methods of their calculation and estimation, practical
usage in health care institutions activity.
2. TO BE ABLE: to fill in documents for infant mortality registration; to calculate and estimate infant
mortality rate, neonatal and postneonatal mortality rate.
