to use.
7. Check the shaft size is suitable for the unit.

Selection procedure
Should you need to select an actuator outside the parameters of the selection guide shown overleaf, use one of the following methods:
Based on allowable input torque:
1. Determine the valves required output
torque.
2. Select an actuator from the technical
datas maximum torque output column.
3. Check the shaft size is suitable for the unit.
4. Divide the output torque by the selected
actuators mechanical advantage to give
the actual input torque.
Example:
DN 300 F631 DIHI AS 2129 F
Operating pressure 2100 kPa
Required output torque: = 1075 Nm
Maximum allowable input torque: = 60 Nm
Shaft size: = 118
Select K26S3 rated at 3300 Nm.
Check shaft size 214 is standard bore
diameter therfore O.K.
Calculate actual input torque = 1075
27.5
Actual input torque = 39 Nm < 60
Nm therfore O.K.

Based on allowable rimpull effort:

1. Determine the valves require output torque.
2. Select the actuator from the technical
datas maximum torque output column.
3. Check the shaft size is suitable.
4. Choose a handwheel diameter from the
standard available diameters.
5. Calculate the desired mechanical
advantage by dividing the output torque by
the selected units rim pull and multiply by
the handwheel radius.
6. From the technical data, select the unit that
has the nearest mechanical advantage.
7. Using the selected units mechanical
advantage, calculate the actual rim pull
effort.

Example:
DN 600 F631 DIH1 AS 2129 F
Operating pressure 2100 kPa
Output torque: = 3680 Nm
Maximum allowable rimpull effort: = 400 N
Shaft size: = 214
Select K40S3 rated at 5500 Nm.
Check shaft size 214 is standard bore
diameter therefore O.K.
Choose a handwheel diameter of 450mm.
Calculate desired mechanical advantage.
= 3680
400 x 0.225
MA = 40.8
F427 K40S3 450 mechanical advantage
= 45.8 > 40.8 O.K.
Calculate the actual rimpull effort
= 3680
45.8 x 0.225
Actual rimpull effort = 357 N < 400
Selected actuator is F427 K40S3 450.

Selected actuator is F427 K26S3.

Note:
The general purpose (GRW/GRL), process control (F920/F990/F991) and slurry valve (F2000) sizing is based
on their maximum respective rating to suit severe industrial or public authority use.
Waterworks valves actuator sizing is based on 2100 kPa working pressure and an input torque of 60 Nm or
135 N rim pull.
The K-LOK (F360/F362) valve sizing is based on RTFE seated valves only, and at their maximum pressure
rating of 5100 kPa. For all other trims refer to the sizing table over page.
Select the column of the valve type you want to actuate ie GRW. Look down that column to the valve size
required. Follow that line horizontally across to the left for the most suitable actuator to use.
Refer to the Adaptability chart literature sheet to establish whether Bosses are required to adapt the valve
and actuator.
