1.1 INTRODUCTION
As we know, teaching young learners can be quiet easy by applying interesting and
enjoyable activities in the classroom seeing how they can easily catch and recognize something
they first see and listen to. However, it might be a matter when they pick up wrong things
because young learners usually believe something in the first sight. In such a way, an English
teacher is expected to be very careful in teaching children so that the knowledge they catch is
reliable. To sum up, an English teacher needs to be creative and innovative in providing the
materials to make them not bored, an English teacher can use visual aids as well and there are
still various media.
As have been stated before that the media used in the classroom are various. Nursery
rhymes, pictures, and videos are some sort of them. For more details, I am going to draw Unit
of Works in teaching English in the classroom using those kinds of interesting media.
First of all, I have picked up a theme Part of Body to teach the 1 st grade students of
elementary level. I need three meetings to finish these materials with each of it requires 35
minutes. I am going to not only use textbook but also pictures, songs and the like to encourage
them to study with something enjoyable. Additionally, I am going to apply the use of 2 nd
language acquisition in my classroom in teaching four language skills and three components. At
the beginning, teaching listening and speaking are crucial seeing how they are the skills children
acquire first when they learn their 1st language. It will be complete by adding one component,
that is Vocabulary. The reason is children need a store of words to either speak or listen. The
main media and materials I use are pictures and a song.
After that, the second meeting might be reading and pronunciation. It is really significant,
after they are able to speak and listen they are asked to learn to read with good proficiency in
pronunciation. The media I am going to use is a simple short text with pictures in it. For the last
meeting, I will teach writing and grammar. Why? Because before they create a piece of writing,
they have to store as many words as possible. The more they read, listen, and speak the more
words they can produce. For grammar, seeing that grammar is the reflection of the language
which guide us how to organize words in a sentence correctly, the teacher are required to teach
them about it, but the very basic one because they are still children. For writing, the activities
will be just organizing jumbled words.
To summarize, teaching children will be very pleasant by applying enjoyable activities
because they still like playing and singing. Here I use some media to promote their learning
process. In addition to the objective of media itself, I teach them four skills and three
components in such a way they learn their first language. There will be three stages with 35
minutes in each meeting.
In the first meeting, I am going to teach listening, speaking, and vocabulary with 35
minutes time allocation. Here I use a song and students would listen to the song carefully and
then repeat while singing together. For vocabulary mastery I use pictures. Students are also asked
to be able to spell the words.
STEPS

After the teacher sings a song once, the teacher will guide the students to repeat to her
line by line. The teacher will also touch the parts of body while singing a song so that they know
each part of body spots. After they master the song, they will sing together with the teacher while
touching their parts of body.
3. Vocabulary
The teacher : alright students, tell me what is it? (pointing to one student and
touching feet)
The student : feet mam
The teacher : okay, anyone? How do you spell feet? (Giving thumb up to the student
and walking around the table)
One student : F-E-E-T
The teacher : Good job (the teacher will do this for the rest of parts of body that
exist in the song, perhaps 3 to 4 words)
The teacher will do this activity to encourage them learning vocabulary. After that, the
teacher will give them a simple exercise.
4. The exercise

CONCLUSION
Teaching children is easy, isnt it? Especially when the teacher applies activities that
make students happy, they will easily catch the material and understand it. It is also important to
make them active students. The media which can promote their learning can be textbooks,
pictures, songs, and anything interesting and colorful. Those kinds of instructional materials can
stimulate their minds to want to dig deeper in learning English because children are curious of
something new. For younger learners in the 1st grade of elementary school, 35 minutes in each
meeting is enough. As have been mentioned in the previous chapter, the activities which can be
done in the classroom are various such as jumbled words, singing a song, reading a short text and
so on. Furthermore, the activities cannot be done in isolation without the role of four skills and
three components (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, Pronunciation, and
Grammar).
