Lesson summary:.
Teacher shows a song video with its lyrics entitled The Ants Go Marching One By One. Teacher shows the
song video twice and asks the pupils to sing and dance to the song. For pre-reading, teacher shows two
paragraphs of a text about ants. Teacher guides the pupils to read, then asks the pupils to do choral reading and
group reading. Teacher asks questions regarding the text. Teacher distributes worksheets to the pupils and guide
them in answering the questions. The pupils then sit in groups and teacher does a quiz sesson. The teacher
announces the winner. As a closure, teacher asks the pupils to sing the song that they have learned during the
set induction along with its movements.

Content Standard:
2.2 By the end of the 6 year primary schooling, pupils will be able to demonstrate understanding of variety
of linear and non-linear texts in the form of print and non-print materials using a range of strategies to
construct meaning.
Learning Standard:

Pupils previous knowledge:


The pupils have been introduced to the text used in this lesson during the previous lesson.
Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
1) fill in the blanks with at least 8 out of 10 answers correctly .

Content: Ants live in large groups called colonies. Each colony consists of three types of ants. They are the
queen, the workers, and the males. The queen and the males have wings, while the workers do not. Usually, a
colony consists of only one queen ants. The queen is the only ant that can lay eggs. The queen is also the
largest ant in the colony. Some take care of newly hatched ants called larvae. Some gather food and keep their
home clean.
