LIFESTYLE RATHER THAN EMBRACING ALL THE DIFFERENT CULTURES
Culture, what is it ? Is it just you and me and the clothes
we wear , is it the food we eat ,or is it the god whom we worship.Or is it more complex than all of these?? Amongst the oh so complicated and dynamic definition of the word culture itself, a few brave people have gathered here to talk about multiculturalism and the need to annihilate the same by the demonic ideology of integration. A very good Morning to all present her. I, Gauri Tyagi, of Jwala house, stand in front of you all to speak against the motion. Being born in a multicultural nation such as India, where there is as much difference between a Kannadiga and a Kashmiri as between a Spaniard and a German . Where, amidst 30 languages , Tamil is as different from Bengali as English from Chinese, we have seen this Indian civilization SURVIVE, GROW AND PROSPER without an iota of a need for the policy of integration. And if this great Indian Juggernaut can roll on in spite of all the varieties, why this battle cry for integration When people live in multicultured nation they experience diversity. Through this they grow and with , grows the nation. Also they adopt tolerance towards other cultures.
In my opinion , culture is something which can not be
enforced on someone. Are you saying that you want to issue a public policy on what religion to follow!!! And if you do so , it is like telling a person what to wear and what to eat .Do you want to meet the same kind of people wherever you go ? USSR was one country in which the communist party enforced one culture throughout the country with a belief that this policy would unite their country. Instead the reverse happened and USSR shattered into smaller countries. A certain political party in Maharashtra disallowed its Hindi speaking immigrants from using their language , celebrate their festival without any fear of being attacked in the name of INTEGRATION. They indulged in violent propaganda of one particular language and custom. Cultural diversity , flourishing within the framework of democracy, tolerance , social Justice and mutual respect between people is indispensible for peace and security- be it t the local , national or international level. People from the opposite school of thought believe that multiculturalism stirs riots, conflicts and differentiation in society. That it is truly absurd. OK! By integration you can go away with the difference in cultures and lifestyle but what about the difference in peoples thinking. Actually my dear friends it is their different ways of approaching a particular issue which causes misunderstanding and conflicts.
If you really want to integrate a nation then do so by
developing a feeling of oneness in your hearts, by being sensitive to others and their problems. As a child I do not want to celebrate Diwali alone or Christmas or Eid or Gurupurab. It is Diwali when I decorate my house and light fire works. It is Christmas when my parents surprise me with gifts. It is Eid when I get to wear new clothes. It is gurupurab when I get to eat langar. Variety brings with itself vibrance ,joy and contentment. Please let me relish and enjoy all flavors of life. Gauri Tyagi
