Excellency, Mrs Naela Chohan, Pakistans High Commissioner to Australia who will address a
public meeting on Tuesday 11 October at the Curtin University School of Business, 78 Murray

Her Excellency Mrs Cholan is a diplomat, having served in seven countries on five continents.
She is a strong advocate on womens rights, holds a masters degree in international relations and
speaks seven languages. In her words: wherever I was posted, I learnt the language because
without that you cant really reach out to people. In my view thats the most important work we
do as diplomats; reach out to the hearts and minds, to be able to create linkages of friendship and
love.

SENIORS WEEK GRANT

We have been allocated the funding for the annual poetry evening on 12 th November as part of
Seniors Week so watch the space as we book the venue and contact our patrons.
HELPING VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Soon after last newsletter we received a request for dresses for two Pakistani women in refuge.
Thanks to all of you who immediately come forward and helped. A number of members have asked for
the names and addresses of the two ladies. Please note that Refuge is a sheltered place and addresses
are not known many a times to me as well. PIA receives these requests through two modes:
A: cases where a woman has approached us for help in the first place.
B. An agency has interacted with the woman and it is entirely at her discretion if she wants to talk to
us or remain anonymous. Our experience is that the community is the last one on the list that a lady
wants to inform about her situation so even in cases where we have met the lady she does not want
everyone to know. We do respect this decision.
PAKISTAN SHINES AT FEDERATION OF ENGINEERING INSTITUTIONS OF ASIA PACIFIC REGION (FEIAP)

review evaluation by them. PEC Accreditation process and standards is recognised and thus degrees
are declared equal to Asia-Pacific countries by the federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia-Pacific
region. The General Assembly meetig was hosted by Engineers Australia at Perth.
Meanwhile PEC nominated Engineer Dr Shahbaz Khan got FEIAP Engineers of the Years Award.

On behalf of PIA, we will particularly request you to circulate it widely. It is important in current times
as last week as seen Ms. Pauline Hansens speech making headlines.

Br. Khaled has also uploaded videos as part of peaceful progression.

We have received several comments on our facebook and through personal communication via email.
While we acknowledge the comments made by Ms. Hansen are offensive, if we have to counteract the
speech with offensive and disrespectful comments promoting further hate, PIA will not be part of it.
Therefore we delete the comments and are not circulating the emails. We have representations in the
parliament and they are our best vehicle to bring the change in attitudes which somehow have

On the other hand we can definitely celebrate the contribution that migrant youth in WA are making
for a better and improved World. Omair and his team has hired a regular venue for Friday prayers

One group of Pakistani youngsters has just launched a Perth Muslim Burial Group to help families in

the UWA Guild.
Another group of young leaders are involved in a fundraiser on 16th October. TalBees group which has
