GENERAL

1.1

Summary
This specification describes the general requirements for the manufacture and supply of
PTFE Sliding Plate assemblies. The requirements included in this specification supplement
the Sliding Plate drawing sheets issued.

The publications listed below form part of this specification. Each publication shall be the
latest revision and addendum in effect on the date this specification is issued Approved for
Construction unless noted otherwise. Except as modified by the requirements specified
herein or the details of the drawings, Work included in this specification shall conform to the
applicable provisions of these publications.

DESIGN

2.1

General
Sliding Plate assemblies shall be as per manufacturers standards, but shall comply with the
requirements of datasheets and specifications supplied to Vendor. Deviations, other than
those acceptable by this specification, shall be reported to the Stress engineer.

2.2

Materials
Carbon steel backing plate material shall be in accordance with ASTM A36 or equivalent.
Polished stainless steel material shall be in accordance with ASTM A240 Type 316 or
equivalent.
The PTFE plate insert shall have the following properties as a minimum:

Compressive strength to ASTM D 695

Tensile strength to ASTM D 638

7.0 MPa
14.5 MPa

The PTFE material shall be reinforced with 25% glass-fiber and shall not deteriorate due to
exposure to:

Continuous Operating temperature up to 180C.

Strong sunlight.

FABRICATION

3.1

General
All parts shall be fabricated in strict accordance with the specified drawing sheets per the
Manufacturers standard fabrication process. Exposed corners and edges shall be ground
smooth.

3.2

Painting
The fabricator/supplier shall perform surface preparation and painting of the steel backing
plate in accordance with Manufacturers standards. There shall be no paint on the PTFE
surfaces.

3.3

Documentation
Supplier shall supply certificates of material compliance for each material shipment, stating
that each item listed and included in that shipment conforms to the material specifications
denoted on the bills of material or specification and/or fabrication and installation drawings.

PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT

4.1

Assembly of Materials
Each Sliding plate assembly shall be completely pre-assembled and packaged as an
individual unit.

4.2

Tagging and Boxing

Each assembly shall be identified with its tag assembly number as indicated on the
specification drawing. The items shall be properly boxed, indicating the Purchase order
number and Line item numbers included. Further:
A.

Partial shipment of completed assemblies for a large order is acceptable in specific

cases mandatory.

B.

A copy of the specification or fabrication drawings, the manufacturer's installation

instructions, a copy of the bills of materials, certificates of compliance and the
standard packing list, shall be enclosed in a sealed plastic envelope for each box or
crate prepared for shipment.

C.

Where practical, material shall be palletized with a gross weight not to exceed
1000 kg. For shipping and storage, adequate packaging shall be provided for
protection against the elements for a prolonged period.
