Growing Deeply

a daily scripture guide

Week of September 19September 24

MONDAY: John 13:34-35 Location of the scripture
Before it is glory and after it is betrayal. In the middle sits the command to
love in the same way as Jesus. Perhaps, it means in the same way and in both
situations of glory and betrayal.
PRAYER: Lord, I love you. I want to love like you in all times not just those
time convenient to me. I need your help through the Holy Spirit to do so.
TUESDAY: John 13:34-35 Commandments
Sometimes Christianity is mistaken as having lots of rules. Jesus commanded
only thing but required it for God, self, and neighbor. LOVE!
PRAYER: Jesus you are love and you invite me live in that love all the days
of my life. I delight in practicing love not as a ruled to be followed but as
privilege and joy.

Sunday Sermon

THURSDAY: John 13:34-35 At the table
Jesus shares this love at the table meal with all the disciples.
ACTION: The next meal you have with someone, express your love for them.
FRIDAY: John 13:34-35 Tough love
Following this scripture, Judas will leave and betray Jesus. His guilt and shame
will lead him to suicide. What might Jesus love for Jesus looked like despite
his actions?
REFLECTION: Though we may feel unloveable, we are not.
SATURDAY: John 13:34-35 Reflection questions (from dancingwiththeword.
com)
When and where have you experienced the love of Gods people as
testimony to our shared faith in Jesus?
When and where have you seen a faith community living this love, as
witness to the One whom they are called to follow? What is their story?
In those places where it is not so, what needs to change to make it so?
Where might that change begin?
ACTION: Answer the questions above. Sit with your answers. Say a silent
