Discovering our body-stomach

cells and stomach disorders

The stomach lining mucosa renews itself every 2~5days;

80% of people suffer from disorders of the stomach;
30% of people suffer from chronic gastritis;
10% of people suffers from digestive ulcer;
Stomach cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer related death;

The Stomach holds and digests foods

The human stomach can produce and secrete about 2.2 to 3 liters of
gastric acid per day, along with pepsin and lipase for digestion

How the stomach works

Disorders of the stomach

Disorders of the stomach are very common that include acid reflux (heartburn),
gastritis, stomach ulcer, stomach cancer etc.
Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide . The 5year survival rate among gastric cancer patients is still less than 40%;

Stomach is a magic organ-why the stomach

does not digest itself?
Mucosal protection against autodigestion:
(a) mucus secretion: mucus is relatively
impermeable to H+;
(b) alkaline bicarbonate
secretion creates pH neutral microenvironment adjacent to cell
surface
(c) intercellular tight junctions prevent back-diffusion of H+; disruptions
are quickly repaired
(d) rich blood flow supplies bicarbonate and nutrients and removes
acid
(e) the epithelium renews itself every 2~5 days!

Types of Stomach Cells and How They Function

Prietal cell The parietal cells are
responsible for secreting
hydrochloric acid, a strong acid
that activates another stomach
secretion, called pepsinogen, and
allows it to break down your food.
Hydrochloric acid also kills
bacteria that are on the surface of
you food..

Types of Stomach Cells and How They Function

Chief cells
Chief cells secrete chemicals called pepsinogen
and gastric lipase, which work with gastric acid
to help to breakdown proteins and fats in the
foods.

Types of Stomach Cells and How They Function

G cells
Gastrin, a hormone that stimulates
your parietal cells to release
hydrochloric acid, is made in the G
cells of your stomach.
These cells are activated when
your parasympathetic nervous
system stimulates them through
the vagus nerve.

Types of Stomach Cells and How They Function

Mucous Cells (Epithelial cells)
Your stomach contents are very acidic and could easily burn through your
stomach wall if it were not protected with a thick layer of mucous. It is the
mucous cells' job to secrete this mucous, which has alkaline properties to
counteract the acidity of your stomach contents.
The mucous cells have a life span of about 3 days;
Epithelial HCO3- secretion was accepted as the
most important defense mechanism against acid.
The lipid bilayer of the epithelial cells also protect
the mucous cells, namely the stomach lining.

Heartburn is caused by low stomach acidJonathan V. Wright, M.D. author of "Your Stomach"
An estimated 40-44% of adult Americans suffer from a particular
stomach malady called acid reflux, commonly referred to as heartburn.
The irony is that these millions of sufferers may be the victims of a
medical mistake, which is not
uncommon in history. George Washington
seems to have been bled to death by his
doctors, and there are many other famous
cases. But rarely in history has a medical
mistake affected so many millions of
people, which appears to be the case today with stomach remedies.

Heartburn is caused by low stomach acid

The basic misconception is that too much stomach acid is causing
the stomach distress and heartburn. We need the acid to break
down and digest our food. Most people do not know that stomach
acid tends to decline with age. Young people on average have lots of
stomach acid. Do they develop stomach problems? Not usually.
It is older people who report the most stomach trouble. When
doctors have performed actual stomach acid tests in grown adults,
they have often been surprised to find so little acid. If acid has fallen
to low levels, and the patient is having stomach trouble, how can it
make sense to eliminate what little acid is left?

Underlying causes of the stomach disorders

Stressful working
conditions;
Ice drinks, like cola, ice
creams;
Unhealthy foods like
fried Mc, KFC
Drugs.like aspirin
Irregular dieting

Foes of the stomach-Why

Cola hurts the stomach

It is Cold;
Phosphoric acid is
corrosive and
acidic-pH 2.5~3;
it contains 10~15%
poisonous sugar;

Heal the stomach with Far infrared energy

The benefits of drinking antioxidant alkaline water

Protect the endothelial structure;
Prevent and reduce LDL from
oxidation;
Prevent and reduce
inflammation.
