4 Study Limitations
There are several limitation of study occurred during conduct this research that will
influence the result of undergraduate students choice in high education in Malaysia. The
limitations are including the small sample size of respondents and lack of sufficient time.
The first limitation of this study is insufficient of the sample size. The respondents in
this research only involved 147 of UTAR Quantity Surveying (QS) students who currently
taking the UEBE2853 Quantitative Analysis and Operation Research in May 2016. There only
have small size of sample and focused on UTAR QS students so the results of survey achieved
were not accurate. Besides that, the results obtained can only indicate the 147 QS students
opinions but not to the whole population. Hence, the information collected are not applicable to
represent the whole population and this limits the conclusion generalizability.
Moreover, there is lack of sufficient time to do the research. The duration for us to doing
this research is limited since there is only around 12 weeks after briefed by our lecturer. We
have to conduct the whole research within the time. We only carried out the quantitative
research instance of qualitative research due to the qualitative research is require more time to
make it. Our survey method is through the questionnaire posted on Web Based Learning
Environment (WBLE). We can only focus on generalization of research finding to the
respondent through the statistical analysis. Also, we were lack of time to carry out the in depth
information qualitative survey like structure interview from the respondent. Thus, this research
does not have strong evidence to support it.
The limitation of study will influence the result of research, but this research might
provide act as a reference to the information of the undergraduate students choice when they are
making decision in their tertiary education even though there are limitations of this research.

5.5 Recommendations for Future Research

Here are some of the recommendations that can help to overcome the limitation of study
which stated previously for researcher to improve the future research.
The first recommendation is to carry out the same research again in a repetition manner.
To replicate the research may find different results and will be able to strengthen the evidence of
previous research finding and correct the limitations. Any extension or modifications of the
original study can be based on current knowledge in the same field. The researchers can apply
the existing theory to new situations in order to determine generalizability to different subjects
which may involve the other course and university students. In term of repeating the research, it
can be assure that results are more reliable due to having more valuable information and will
increase our understanding towards that particular field.
The second recommendation is to increase the size of the sample. From the limitations
stated previously, the respondents for our research are merely 147 of respondents from UTAR
QS students who taking UEBE2853 Quantitative Analysis and Operation Research in May 2016.
By increasing the sample size, it will eventually obtained more data and opinion of students, the
more of sample size mean that there are more reliable and the survey result can only be truly
valuable and more generalize standard. In general, the largest possible of sample size will lead to
the result more precise in the research with a given desired level of confidence. However, a
sample that is too big will lead to the waste of precious resources such as time and money, while
a sample that is too small will not allow us to gain reliable insights. Professional researchers
typically set a sample size level of about 500 to optimally estimate a single population parameter
(Research-advisors.com, 2016). With regards to the above statement, it is best for the research to
be able to carry out such size of sample for the best results.
The last recommendation is to carry out the qualitative survey in this research.
Qualitative research can makes it easy for researcher to gain clearer understanding about the
information in the research. This type of research gives emphasis on the value of looking on
variables. The data in qualitative research is more compelling and powerful than data gathered

through quantitative research. Qualitative research might include like case studies, interviews,
personal observations and focus groups. Qualitative research provides in depth and in detail of
information, so that will be get the valuable data. The quantitative and qualitative research
approaches each have their strengths and weaknesses, use both approaches to getting the more
generalize and reliable information in order to the research.
